good tour if you don't rent a car
By jake the trip guy from usa on

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

This tour is good if you don't rent a car. If you do rent a car AND have a go Oahu card, I would skip it and do the tour on my own. The cool stops are WAY too short like 10 to 15 Minutes: hanauma bay, Pali lookout, blowhole, north shore, etc. The longer stops were all commercial : Maui divers jewelry, dole plantation. Even though the stop at dole plantation is 30 minutes, you Dont have time to do anything but look around and shop. The place we stopped for lunch was some coral shop/restaurant,. The prices were fair, service was fast and food ok but after you browse the shop, they make you feel compelled to buy so we just went outside to walk around.

We had a fantastic time on this trip. We saw so much of the island. We even stopped at Sunset Beach while a surfing competition was going on! One more thing off the bucket list. I would highly recommend this tour. Our driver Ted was funny, energetic, and made this trip even better! What a great singer. Thank you cousin Ted and hang loose.

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

My husband and I went on the Secret Island tour, catamaran and rainforest, but we saved this tour for our last day. It was the BEST of the entire week we stayed here. We had a chance to really SEE and learn about the entire island as opposed to just driving through it without having a clue. We had no idea what a Kukui nut tree or Macadamia nut tree even looked like until we came on this tour. Our driver, Fred was extremely knowledgeable and a wealth of informations the entire trip. He had good humor and drove very carefully. Even though time wasn't always on our side he made sure to really take care of us and MAKE extra time so we could stop at the Macadamia nut outlet and at the Dole Plantation. I was a bit nervous as we drove around high cliffs but Fred was a very cautious driver, always good to point out sights and slow down so we could see them. He would warn us much earlier to take our cameras, or when our next restroom stop would be. We had a good lunch at the Coral Kingdom. Vegetarians be careful when you order the Vegetarian sandwhich or buger...your "meat" is a BIG chunk of onion-it was awful. The vegetable fried rice looked very good though. We had a FANTASTIC ride around the island and would gladly have paid the $60.75 per person to travel if we didn't have our Go Oahu card. The bus was nicely air conditioned and there were plenty of chances to get out and take a look everywhere with enough time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this trip...and hope that you get Fred to be your driver-he made it all worth the while!!!

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

It was a great start to our trip. It alowed us to see nearly the whole island and saved us on gas! James was a lot of fun and we were able to see so many things. We all were back on the bus quickly so we were able to see some sites that are offten skiped. Lunch was great and priced well too. The last stop was at Dole and there was enough time to ride the train if we wished, we did not, but others did and had fun. We ate with Cousin James and he was able to tell us more about the island and give us a recomendation on dinner near our condo on the west side.

The tour was fantastic and a great way to see the whole island in a day. You see all the big scenic spots and there are lots of photo opportunities. Pablo was awesome. How all that knowledge fits in one head bets me. Only con... The bus is freezing. Bring something to rug up with!

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

Our last stop was the Dole Plantation and it was only 30 mins long-just enough time to line up and get a Dole Whip (highly recommended). We were dropped off at our hotel at 430pm-1/2 hour early than advertised...wished we had 1 hour at Dole Plantation to make up for the time.

Informative, Interesting, Beautiful scenery
Cons:
High priced lunch offers, Coral Kingdom stops,
Bottom Line:

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

If I were to do it all over again, I'd pack my own lunch and enjoy the outside area at the stop areas. I'd also stay at the Dole Plantation and ride the train and complete the maze and take the bus back to Honolulu. (I had the Oahu card and it took a whole day on the bus to get back there and enjoy that stop more) The driver was awesome and knew the island like the back of his hand. The stops for photo shots were some of the best I took during our vacation. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was due to the rest stops being complete tourist traps with high prices for lunch and pushie sales people at the Coral Kingdom.

Comments about Smart Destinations Grand Circle Island Tour:

This was our second trip to Hawaii and I didn't really know if this tour would be beneficial to do. We had Cousin Goodlooking for our driver and he was so hilarious it was entertaining to just listen to him while driving to the next stop. My husband and I talked about how great this tour was and kept referring to Cousin Goodlooking for the rest of our trip. It was well worth it to do this tour and was the highlight of our vacation. Thanks Cousin Goodlooking for a great tour!!
