The Lincoln Road Mall

Lincoln Road was once known as one of the hottest shopping streets in the country is experiencing a kind of retail rebirth. It’s a 7 block pedestrian mall which runs from Collins Road to Biscayne Bay and is home to more than 400 shops, restaurants and businesses. It has a very international feel about it but is not nearly as tourist driven as Ocean Drive. In fact, a friend and I were walking to dinner and English was the minority language being spoken by far. All of the cafes and restaurants have outdoor seating-in fact, there are more seats available outside than inside. One of my favorite eateries is Le Bon where the mussels are always delicious and I can have a tasty beer from Belgium on tap! You can present your Go Miami Card there as well to receive a free piece of tiramisu when you purchase 2 entrees. The Lincoln Road Market is a farmer's market that offers a wide variety of … [Read more...]

New England Aquarium

No trip to Boston is complete without a visit to the New England Aquarium.  This past Summer I took some time out to pay the aquarium a visit.  It has been much too long since my last visit, so I was really excited to relive some of my childhood memories. The first thing that comes to mind when speaking about the aquarium is the outdoor harbor seal exhibit.  This exhibit is open all year round regardless of the weather and is always a welcoming site for aquarium visitors. Once inside the floor level exhibit of penguins is still as exciting as it was when I was 10.  I’m amazed how quickly these birds move through the water.  The friendly games of chase amongst the penguins can keep me entertained for hours. As you move through the aquarium each exhibit brings back great memories.  The petting tank, the top level of the ocean tank, the piranhas and electric eels all are as … [Read more...]

Museum of Fine Arts Boston

This past Summer, I had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (MFA).  Sadly, my appreciation of art didn’t mature until I was in my late 20’s, but I’m glad good friends opened my eyes to the art world. I didn’t realize how fantastic the MFA was until I visited a few months ago.  The museum houses work from all the great arts from Monet to Renoir.  Additionally, the museum carries special exhibits from all over the world and from various times in history. The wonderful thing about living in a city with a huge student population is that places like museums practically offer free admission for students.  Luckily the MFA offers free admissions for students with the proper ID.  However, special exhibits like the Treasures from Assyria in the British Museum exhibit (on display until January 4, 2009) costs an additional charge, but with a student ID it cuts the … [Read more...]

Rockerfeller Center Tree Lighting in its 76th Year

This December 3rd will see the traditional lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. 2008 marks the 76th annual lighting of the famous tree which is hand selected to ensure the proper shape and quality of the 65 foot (or higher) tree.  This year the ceremony will run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and typical involves appearances by celebrities and a variety of musical acts. The setting is spectacular with Rockefeller Plaza all decked out for the Holidays, including the world famous skating Rink at Rockefeller Center. While the ice gets pretty banged up, its an amazing experience to skate in front of a crowd of onlookers with the tree in the background. If you miss the Tree Lighting Ceremony itself don't worry, a tree that big tends to stick around for a while. This Holiday you will be able to see the tree until January 9th, 2009.  It is illuminated each day from … [Read more...]
