Re-Opening of Bishop Museum’s Hawaiian Hall

The Bishop Museum has just completed the first renovation in over 100 years of its Hawaiian Hall. The Victorian style building displayed some of the most advanced ideas of museum design at its original opening in 1903 and the re-opened Hall updates and expands the original goal of the museum to tell its stories with an authentic Hawaiian perspective. The three floors of the Hawaiian Hall tell the story of the Islands and their people with each floor focused on a particular theme. The First floor covers pre-contact Hawaii with displays and artifacts centered on religion, legends, and the central role of the ocean in the lives of Hawaiians. The second floor centers on daily life and looks at work, culture, and Hawaiians relationship with the land of the Islands. Harry Potter Exhibit Travels to Boston

  Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets image; Taken by Flickr user Colin ZHU Hitching their broomstick to the publicity-wagon surrounding the sixth Harry Potter film, the Museum of Science announced today that they will be the next stop for "Harry Potter: The Exhibition" this fall.  This traveling exhibit is currently on display at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry and showcases over 200 costumes, props, and set features from the record-setting wizard films - including the Great Hall, elaborate outfits from the Yule Ball, and the Gryffindor common room. Take in the View: 103 Floors Straight Down

For those scared of heights, the Sears Tower Skydeck was probably never on their list of "must-see's." But the new glass floored observation point will undoubtedly thrill those looking for the ultimate view from the United States' tallest building. "I'm not going out on that thing" is one common reaction to the just opened addition to the Skydeck, named "The Ledge." But even more common is an exclamation of amazement (with perhaps a tinge of fear) from those who have stood looking between their feet 103 floors straight down. And yes, a very high percentage of the younger visitors do seem determined to lie down on The Ledge as you can see from the photo above taken opening weekend.
