When visiting the Windy City, there’s no better place for a well-rounded and educational weekend than the Chicago Museum Campus. Situated just south of verdant Grant Park, the Museum Campus is home to three of the city’s most popular attractions – Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum, and Adler Planetarium. Each of these family-friendly cultural institutions has something unique to offer, and a trip to Chicago isn’t complete without a visit to all of them! A trip to the Museum Campus is a great spring break idea, too!
A kid-favorite Chicago attraction, Shedd Aquarium is among the best-known aquariums in the country. Home to more than 30,000 creatures situated across many diverse habitats, Shedd is an amazing place to learn all about the various aquatic species of our planet’s waters. You’ll find stunning sharks in “Wild Reef,” impressive sea turtles in “Caribbean Reef,” and exotic snakes and spiders in “Amazon Rising.” Kids will especially love the “Polar Play Zone,” where you can immerse yourself in the world of penguins, polar bears, and more! Plus, get free admission to the famous “Jellies” show with our Shedd Aquarium discount tickets!
The Field Museum is another premier educational destination. Filled with the wondrous and the awe-inspiring, creatures great and small, and artifacts from all across history, The Field Museum is a one-stop natural history museum. Some of my favorite exhibits include the conservation exhibit, “Restoring Earth,” “Inside Ancient Egypt,” and the sparkly “Hall of Gems.” “Wonders of the 1893 World’s Fair” is wildly successful travelling exhibit, and the “Titans of the Ice Age 3D” adventure is a huge hit with kids.
The Adler Planetarium appeals to the secret astronaut in all of us. Visit “Shoot for the Moon” to follow in the footsteps of astronaut Captain James Lovell, the famous commander of the Apollo 13 mission, among many other impressive accomplishments. Take a tour of the historic Atwood sphere – Chicago’s oldest planetarium, or enjoy a film at the awesome 3-D Universe Theater. Don’t forget “Planet Explorers,” the Adler’s newest permanent exhibit. Ideal for young children, this interactive zone is full of educational adventure and fun.
Of course, out-of–pocket admission to three prestigious museums can add up, so we recommend the Museum Campus Pass, which includes admission to all three museums for a great discount PLUS special insider benefits. You can skip the line at all three institutions, which will save you tons of time during spring break season. Print your pass out for a souvenir, or display it on a smart phone for easy breezy admission. Spend a weekend at Chicago’s Museum Campus this spring and create the perfect spring break memory with your family!
