Still unsure of your New Year’s Eve plans? Spending new years at First Night Boston, in New England’s most populous city and cultural center, is a great way to kick off the upcoming year. Thanks to First Night Boston, you can enjoy Boston’s best art and culture all day long (and into the evening), setting the bar high for 2013!
First Night Boston is sponsored by First Night, Inc., a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to building community and celebrating diversity through the arts for 35 years. This year, First Night Boston features a schedule packed with spectacular musical concerts, comedy shows, museum exhibits, theater and dance performances, and much more. All of the outdoor events are free, while indoor events require the purchase of a button ($18), which acts as your general admission ticket into all events!

Festival of International Short Films
12:00 PM, 1:15 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:45 PM at The Museum of Fine Arts, Remis Auditorium
Back again for another year, the Festival of International Short Films features a collection of recent short films from all around the world, curated by the MFA film department. Films to be shown include Gumdrop, Dark Side of the Lens, Everything is Incredible, Das Haus, Skip Pitts, and Voice Over.
The Magnetic Fields
9:00 PM at Symphony Hall (Doors at 7:30 PM)
First Night Boston is excited to present the Magnetic Fields, the pop band founded and led by Stephen Merrit—who writes and produces most of the band’s music. The band has released ten albums in their two decade-long career, including the 3-disc masterpiece “69 Love Songs,” for which they are most well known.
Lee Fields & The Expressions
9:00 PM at NEC’s Jordan Hall (Doors at 7:30 PM)
Since the late ‘60s, Lee Fields has been bringing legendary soul music to the stage and wowing audiences with funky but tender tunes. Fields is now leading the Expressions, the house band of Brooklyn’s Truth and Soul Records, as they create music that blends new and old for a sound that is truly timeless.
Karmaloop Countdown to Midnight! With DJ Die Young
8:30 PM at the Boston Public Library Front Steps
What could be better than dancing your way into the new year? Join Boston’s hottest DJs—Die Young, Baltimoroder, Coralcola, Nate Bluhm, and Big Digits—for a multimedia dance party on the front steps of the BPL. The countdown extravaganza features dancers, images projected on the library façade, and an impressive light show.
First Night Skating Spectacular
6:00 PM at the Boston Frog Pond
Celebrate the new year with this annual tradition at the Frog Pond—a Skating Spectacular presented by the Skating Club of Boston. The Club’s community of talented skaters includes Students from the Skating Club of Boston Skating Academy and seasoned competitors from the local and national scene. You’ll be dazzled by spins, jumps, lifts, and fancy footwork in a gorgeous winter setting in the heart of Boston.
LogMeIn Midnight Fireworks
12:00 AM above the Boston Harbor
Just as the clock strikes twelve, you’ll look up to see the skies above the Boston Harbor exploding with color, light, and sound to ring in 2013. This special display is created for First Night Boston by Zambelli Fireworks.
