Hyde Park Jazz Fest 2013

sax

The Hyde Park Jazz Festival 2013 is coming up this weekend on Saturday, September 28 from 1pm-Midnight and Sunday, September 29 from 1pm-8pm. Featuring some of the top Jazz artists in the country performing at some of Chi-town’s most iconic locations – including the Smart Museum, International House, Oriental Institute,  Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House and Rockefeller Chapel – the Hyde Park Jazz Fest is a celebration of an art form that blends musical traditions from all over the world into a sound that is distinctly American. This is the seventh year that the festival is being held and it promises to be the best one yet. If you plan on attending, take a glance at other Chicago Attractions to see what other places you might want to visit while you are in the Windy City.

Named “Best Neighborhood Music Festival” by Chicago Magazine, the Hyde Park Jazz Fest is completely free (but is made possible with the help of generous individual donors, foundations and sponsors). With 18 hours of music presented over the course of two days, this year’s event is expected to draw more than 20,000 Jazz lovers.

There’s nothing better to pair with cool Jazz than a hot meal. Dining options at the Hyde Park Jazz Fest include Italian, Thai, Mediterranean, Chinese, Cajun, and Caribbean options. Local favorites include Chant,  Piccolo MondoCedars Mediterranean KitchenMellow YellowNoodles Etc.The Sit DownPark 52 Pizza Capri, and Medici on 57th. To get an idea about some other options that are available in the area, the Go Select Chicago Pass is a great place to start looking and get discounts to top attractions and tours.

The majority of the Jazz festival venues are located in close proximity to each other so attendees are encouraged to park in the Ellis Avenue Parking Garage at the south-east corner of 55th Street and Ellis Avenue and then walk. There are also available festival shuttles which will transport attendees to all venues free of charge before, during and after all performances. The use of bicycles or public transportation to go to and from festival venues is also strongly encouraged. The Hyde Park Jazz Fest will take place rain or shine.
