Madame Tussauds, known today as a world-wide chain of tourist attractions devoted to celebrity figures in wax form, has origins in Europe that extend as far back as the late 18th century.
Marie Tussaud, the original wax sculptor from whom the museum takes its name to this day, created her first full wax figure in 1777. It was a replica of Voltaire.
While you probably won’t find any 18th century philosophers at Madame Tussauds Los Angeles, the Hollywood location is the top spot to see amazingly life-like replicas of movie stars and pop icons.
