Chicago is a magical place to be this time of year. From the famous Christmas tree at the Walnut Room to the festive decorations along the Magnificent Mile, the streets of Chicago are filled with holiday cheer. A favorite holiday event for locals and visitors alike is Chicago’s very own Festival of Lights – the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. This Chicago attraction combines the fun, excitement, and spectacle of a parade with a family-friendly atmosphere. This year’s Festival will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013.
The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is Chicago’s unofficial kickoff to the holiday season. Spend the day with friends and family enjoying “the nation’s largest evening holiday celebration.” While events and activities are located throughout Chicago, most are concentrated (you guessed it) on the Magnificent Mile – a stretch of Michigan Avenue filled with shops, restaurants, and stunning architecture. The day starts with musical performances on the BMO Bank Harris Stage and draws to a close with the Fireworks Spectacular. Don’t miss a moment of this thrilling Chicago attraction.
This festival is an ideal attraction for those of you traveling with kids. A number of family-friendly options are available throughout the day – including a special board game tent and the opportunity to meet Santa at the John Hancock Observatory. Kids can also enjoy a cheesecake decorating event, sample the best pizza and popcorn, and contribute to a huge painted tile mural to be displayed in Pioneer Court.
There will also be a number of exciting musical guests at the BMO Harris Bank Stage, with a number of favorites from Radio Disney. Consult the full line-up for more information about performers. At 5:30, the special Tree-Light Parade will proceed down Michigan Avenue, hosted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Parade includes featured floats by Radio Disney, the Brookfield Zoo, and Hancock Observatory, among many others.
The shops of the Magnificent Mile will be honoring the day with special discounts and deals. You’ll also get deals on hotel rooms, and discounted tickets to the popular cultural events. Take advantage of these holiday savings and pick up the Chicago Holiday Attractions Pass, which includes admission to the North Side Tour, the Lincoln Park Zoo, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Close out the day with the Fireworks Spectacular, an appropriately Magnificent show over the Chicago River.
