Tomorrow is the 61st annual Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo, ranked the largest fair in Florida and lasting 18 days from March 15th to April 1st. Over half a million people will take in the live entertainment, classic carnival rides and games, livestock/agricultural competitions and, of course, delicious fair food (corndogs are my favorite). Here’s a more detailed list of what you can expect when you visit:
A big feature of the 18-day Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo is its variety of performances, shows, and events. There are Grammy-winning artists, WWE performers, and the Cat in the Hat and other children’s performers. You can also expect some typical fair events – like the Show-Me Safari Pig Races, a Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, and Tadpole the Clown – and some not so typical fair events, which include the Royal Hanneford Circus and an ice skating show called Hot Miami Ice.
Since its creation as a non-profit, the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition has donated over $8 million in scholarships, awards, and premiums to students and exhibit participants; these award-winning exhibits, along with other artistic, academic, and agricultural presentations, are all on display at The Fair for public viewing, and attending is a great way to support local schools and education. From an open cattle show to exhibits on culinary arts and creative writing, there’s plenty to take in.
Discount Fair Fun
Like all other fairs, the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo has the usual rides, fairway games, and concessions; but unlike those fairs that charge an arm and a leg for admission and tickets, this Fair offers a slew of discounts:
- Opening Day: Admission is only $5, and the purchase of one ticket (either online or at the Advance Discount Sale) admits 2. Also, look out for deals on food and games.
- $5 Before 5: Download a coupon for $5 off admission from the Fair Discount Page, and enjoy discounts on food, rides, and games Monday – Friday before 5 pm.
- Borden Family Fun Pack: Bring in a cap with the Elsie sticker from a gallon of Borden milk and get $5 off a $40 Family Four Admission Pack.
- Additional Discounts: The Fair also offers discounted admission for active and retired members of the military, Miami Dade County employees, PTA members, and Library Card holders, and a Season Pass if you’re ambitious enough to visit everday.
If you’re not able to visit the Fair every day, or are looking for a little diversity in your Miami trip, check out some of Miami’s top attractions, like Zoo Miami or Glass Bottom Boating and Snorkeling, with the Go Miami Card for great discounts and even more fun!
