There’s a lot going on in Miami – from the beaches to Little Havana to the shopping and nightlife, you’ll never run out of something new to do. With such a variety, there’s something for every friend or family member to enjoy, and more than likely everyone will get a tan while doing it. Here are some must-do attractions, sights, experiences in sunny Miami:
Hit the Sand at South Beach
Arguably Miami’s hottest entertainment neighborhood, South Beach is the place to go for shopping, dining, clubbing, and beaching in Southern Florida. On the beach itself, feel free to soak up sun, try your hand at surfing or wave riding, or play a quick game of Frisbee or beach volleyball with some friends. When you’ve had your fill of the beach, relax with either some window shopping and a nice dinner at one of the neighborhood’s restaurants, such as Joe’s Stone Crab, Casa Tuna, or the Forge Restaurant (all top-rated by South Beach magazine).
If you’d rather hit South Beach for a real night out, take the Bar Hop Shuttle from your hotel at 8pm to three of the area’s hottest spots, and take advantage of no entrance fees, drink specials, and, of course, no driving.
Explore the WILDS of Miami
If you’re looking to see some animals and wildlife during your visit to Florida, you should know that there’s more to see in Miami than manatees and alligators. Visit Zoo Miami to see Bengal tigers, tree kangaroos, koalas, and over 2000 other animal species on the Zoo’s 300+ acre site. In addition to the average animal exhibits, there are also daily wildlife shows, camel rides, family safari cycles, and many more interactive experiences to be had.
For an even more exotic animal experience, make your way to Jungle Island via one of the free shuttles offered at area hotels. One of the Island’s main attractions is Vulcan, their half lion half cat liger who eats a whopping 20 pounds of meat a day. If you’re more into herbivores, there’s also the 45 minute Lemur Experience, which allows you and your family to enter the Lemur Nursery and play around with three separate types of lemurs!
Get to Know the Glamor of the Art Deco Scene
Whether you are in the mood to learn a little more about Miami’s history and culture, or want to take in Miami’s bright colors and iconic architecture you’ve seen in such television series as Miami Vice, the Art Deco Historic District is a must-do trip. The area is right out of the 1920′s Paris, and offers great sight-seeing as well as shopping. You can take an Art Deco Walking Tour that lasts 90 minutes and covers such topics as architecture, design, history, and art.
This weekend is Art Deco Weekend in this area of South Beach, and absolutely worth stopping by if you’re in the area. There will be music performances, an art deco furniture expo, a classic car show, and other sights and events not to be missed.
