Heading to NYC for the holidays? You’re not alone. The holiday season is one of the busiest times to visit New York City, and notoriously one of the most expensive. However, if you’re savvy about looking for NYC holiday travel deals, you need not spend a fortune on the vacation of a lifetime. Just take advantage of these tips and you’ll find yourself face to face with your favorite New York attractions during the season when the City That Never Sleeps truly shines.

Accommodation

It’s no secret that location is everything in NYC, but it can be hard to find affordable lodging close to the top New York attractions—especially as the days of December wind down. If you’ve got any hotel points racked up, now is certainly the time to use them. Otherwise, try scoping out online deals or look a little further outside the city limits. After all, people commute from New Jersey into New York every day, so why not give that a try? Alternative accommodations can provide some of the best deals: Make sure to research local B&Bs, short-term apartment rentals, and even hostels!

Transportation

If you haven’t booked your airfare to NYC, chances are you might have to dish out a pretty penny for a flight. However, don’t forget about ground transportation. Cars, buses, and trains are all feasible methods of transportation for getting into NYC. Once in the city, become familiar with the public transportation system, called the MTA in New York. This is the cheapest way to travel anywhere in the Burroughs that’s not in walking distance. Not only will you save yourself the hassle of looking for a parking spot, you’ll also save big bucks on parking fees and valets.

Christmas at Rockefeller Center is a treat for everyone!

One of my favorite areas during the holidays is Rockefeller Center because there’s so much to do and see. The enormous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree overlooks the Ice Skating Rink, where tourists flock for a romantic and quintessential winter experience. Of course, you can’t miss out on the Top of the Rock, the famous observation deck atop the “30 Rock” building that offers unparalleled views of the city, including a view of the Empire State Building! It’s especially beautiful during the holidays, with some many lights and decorations, and likely some snow on the ground.

You should also check out the unique Origami Holiday Tree at the American Museum of Natural History, one of the city’s biggest and most renowned museums. The special tree is decorated with over 500 colorful origami animals, and you can even make one of your own.

With a New York Holiday Attractions package, you can visit both the Top of the Rock and the Natural History Museum, plus take a Night Sightseeing Tour (the best way to see the holiday lights in every neighborhood). You’ll save 30% off admission to these three attractions, and you can visit them at your leisure.
