Over 70,000 New York City Visitors Using the New York Explorer Pass Can Now Visit the 9/11 Tribute Center
April 23, 2013
Smart Destinations, Inc., a leader in the attractions industry, recently partnered with the 9/11 Tribute Center in lower Manhattan and added it to the New York Explorer Pass must-see attractions.
Lee Ielpi, President and Co-Founder of the 9/11 Tribute Center, commented on the partnership, “We are excited to be partnered with Smart Destinations, to accommodate visitors from around the world on personal walking tours of the 9/11 Memorial. Our very special tours given by the 9/11 community – family members who lost loved ones, survivors, first responders, FDNY, NYPD and residents of the community – share their personal experiences along with the facts and historical information. 9/11 left a mark on New York and cities across the globe, it’s a critical part of visiting New York City and meeting one of our guides who can tell you their personal story of the attacks on a walking tour.”
“We’re honored to establish this new partnership with the 9/11 Tribute Center in New York City,” said Smart Destinations CEO Kevin McLaughlin. “This is a moving tribute to an important part of our nation’s history and it’s something that visitors to New York should all experience.”
The 9/11 Tribute Center features the names of all 2,973 victims of the attacks and a gallery of photographs, forging a connection between visitors and the victims of 9/11 in what the Tribute Center calls “Person to Person History.” The Tribute Center also hosts a number of special exhibits and programs, including a recent exhibit on the construction of the new National 9/11 Memorial and the reconstruction of the area.
The 9/11 Tribute Center visit and tour are now available through the New York Explorer Pass along with more than 50 other attractions, including the Empire State Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the American Museum of Natural History. Visit the Smart Destinations website for more information on the 9/11 Tribute Center, all included attractions, and the pass.

About the 9/11Tribute Center
The 9/11 Tribute Center is located at 120 Liberty Street along the south side of the World Trade Center site. The center was created by the September 11th Families’ Association to share the personal stories of victims, survivors, rescue and recovery workers, volunteers, and residents of Lower Manhattan. By engaging visitors in the authentic experiences of those most affected by the events of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001, the center’s five galleries and its walking tour program convey the courage, loss, heroism, and grief of those who responded to the tragedy. The 9/11 Tribute Center is open seven days a week: Mondays, and Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 10 AM to 6 PM; Tuesdays from noon until 6 PM; and Sundays from noon to 5 PM. Walking tours of the 9/11 Memorial are also conducted daily. For further information please visit our website, http://www.tributewtc.org.
