Art Institute of Chicago Opens “Onchi Koshiro” Exhibit

Art Institute of Chicago

The Art Institute of Chicago is debuting an exciting new exhibit this summer – “Onchi Koshiro: The Abstract Prints.”  This exhibit is among the most significant displays of his work to date, as the Art Institute of Chicago is one of only a few museums with a significant collection of his works. The exhibit will open on July 19th (that's this Saturday!) and run through October 5th. Koshiro was an influential Japanese artist and the founder of the “sosaku hanga” movement in printing-making. He who produced much of his work in the 1930s and 40s. He is best known for his innovative and creative printmaking techniques that bucked generations of traditional Japanese printmaking methods.  Koshiro’s self-proclaimed influences include Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky and the psychedelic work of Edvard Munch. Koshiro’s prints are indeed characterized by similar … [Read more...]

Chicago Vegan Cuisine

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 4.22.15 PM

On my last trip to Windy City, I had the esteemed pleasure of visiting sensational Chicago attractions as well as indulging in some delicious vegan cuisine. With diverse options sprinkled throughout the city, I simply cannot speak highly enough of the vegan culture in Chicago. Vegans and non-vegans both flock to these sensational restaurants to sample the cruelty-free fare. The Chicago Diner – in particular – had a line out front anticipating it’s Sunday morning opening. With locations in the heart of Boystown and in Logan Sqaure, prepared to be floored by this diner-style menu. It was nearly impossible to make a selection amongst so many unparalleled menu items – Cinnamon Roll French Toast, Quinoa Chili, Roasted Vegetable Polenta, Philly Cheezestaek, and so on – and I settled on a BLT Seitan Burger which left me far from disappointed. Be sure to grab a vegan snickerdoodle … [Read more...]
