San Francisco Attraction Closings for Government Shutdown

sanfranciscoattractions

We've all heard a lot about the fact that the recent government shut down is causing some popular tourist attractions, national parks, and monuments to close for the indefinite future. In San Francisco, this unfortunately affects Alcatraz Island, which will be closed for tours for the duration of the shutdown. However, there are still plenty of popular San Francisco attractions that you can enjoy during your visit -- including the Escape from the Rock Cruise, a tour around Alcatraz Island that's equally informative as a stop inside and is a better photo-op to boot. If you're interested in arts and culture, San Francisco has some of the best art-friendly attractions around. Visit the nationally renowned de Young Museum for one of the finest collections of American painting on the West Coast, or stop by the SFMOMA for work and performances by emerging artists. Fisherman's Wharf is one … [Read more...]

San Francisco Blues Festival

blues

It only makes sense that the city that hosts one of the nation's largest free Jazz festivals (which takes place each year on Fillmore Street), would start welcoming the Blues into town as well. This weekend (September 21 & 22) in San Francisco, the 4th Annual Polk Street Blues Festival is going down from 10-6 on, you guessed it, Polk Street (between Pacific and Union Streets). Featuring two main stages, a merchant marketplace, arts and crafts, gourmet food booths, and a large family area, the Blues Fest will be taking place if the sun is shining or if storm clouds are rolling though. For folks who are visiting from out of town (and have possibly purchased a Go Select San Francisco Pass) a trip up to Polk Street can provide a nice departure from the crowded downtown San Francisco chain stores. While the list of artists who are performing at the Blues Fest (see below) will get … [Read more...]
