Lexington: Munroe Tavern

FREE admission to the Munroe Tavern* with the Go Boston Card

Description

On the afternoon of April 19, 1775, the first wave of British troops beat a hasty retreat from Concord back into Lexington, where they were rescued by General Percy's reinforcements at Munroe Tavern. A field hospital was set up there, turning the tide of the battle for the day. Today, the beautifully landscaped grounds preserve a legacy of those days with Colonial-era flowers, while a bullet hole in the ceiling of the tap room is a reminder of the violent battle that gave this place its historic legacy. Adding to that legacy is President Washington's 1789 visit (and he did, in fact, eat here).

Hours:

April 3–May 28: Saturday and Sunday, Tours every hour, 12:00 pm–4:00 pm;
May 29–October 31: Daily, Tours every hour, 12:00 pm–4:00 pm.

Closed

November–March. May be closed major U.S. holidays.

Driving:

Take Route 95 North or South to Exit 31A labeled '4-225 Lexington'. Merge onto Bedford St/RT-225/RT-4 and follow it into Lexington center. Buckman Tavern will be on your left, and the Battle Green and Minuteman Statue will be on your right.Continue through lexington center one more mile. Munroe Tavern will be on your right.

Public Transportation:

Take the T: Red Line to Alewife stop, then board 76 or 62 bus to Lexington Center. No service on Sundays or holidays.

Redemption Instructions:

*Admission to the Munroe Tavern includes admission to Buckman Tavern and Hancock Clarke House (a $15 value).

Tickets to the other two historic homes will be provided upon entry to the Munroe Tavern. Your Go Boston Card will not need to be scanned at the other two homes since the tickets will allow you entry.

The Go City Card is accepted until 5:30pm unless otherwise noted; during all other times standard admission will apply.
