Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

When does my pass expire?

You have 1 year from the purchase date to begin using your pass. Once you activate your pass by visiting your first attraction, your pass is good for 30 days.

Is my pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

What is your refund policy?

You’ll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Compare the price of the pass to the gate prices of the attractions you want to visit to see how much you can save.

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in Chicago so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

What is the age cut off for child tickets?

Child passes are for ages 3–12. Most attractions are free for children under 3.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

This symbol indicates that an attraction requires reservations.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. Chicago Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to Chicago as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The Chicago Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a Chicago Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass:

The pass was fairly easy to use and included a variety of activities to suit different types of travelers. We where in Chicago in early June for a two days and got to see the Shedd Aquarium, Sears Tower, and took and architecture boat tour. I will say to make sure to keep your phone charged. We kept our pass on our phones and I'm not sure what would've happened if the battery would have died.

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass:

We bought the Chicago Explorer Pass with the intention of checking out many of Chicago's best museums and sights at an overall discounted price. However, it was Memorial Day weekend--which we now know is prime tourist time--and the lines for the most popular attractions on the Pass were unreasonably long. Any "skip the line" or similar benefits had no use when all the tourists had similar deals. Sadly, we ended up pressured to cross off enough activities just to make our financially worthwhile before we had to leave the city, but that forced us to go to attractions that weren't on the top of our list, and at unfavorable times e.g. John Hancock Center when it was very cloudy and offered only 2 miles of visibility in all directions. This is not to say that the Pass can't facilitate a great time as a tourist! My friends and I bought a similar deal on a previous trip to Chicago, during a less busy tourist time, and we experienced all we wanted happily at discounted fares because of it. So, the most important tip I have is to go to Chicago at a time with less vacationers.

When we finally received the product over email, everything went great! However getting to that point was very difficult.

Smart Destinations Response: Hi Erik, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this review. Getting the passes via instant delivery is defintely the best option, rather than having them shipped or picking them up with a voucher in the city. We apologize for the hassle you had to go through this time and sincerely thank you for letting us know about your experience.

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass:

My one and only complaint would be about the Hop on Hop off bus, the bus system is awesome and takes you to many must see things in Chicago but there are a couple of location that are close enough to walk to each other...with that being said we were dropped off at one location and walked to the next, when we were ready to get back on the bus there isn't any visible signs stating where to get on the bus. It was like a hide and seek game, the need visible signs around town noting where to get on these tour buses. Other than that the pass is well worth the money!!!

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass:

This is the third time I've purchased a Go card on my visits to US cities and I'm convinced this is the best way to know the main attractions, save money and time while at it. Once you know your itinerary getting to the attractions, skipping the long line feels like a breeze. Even if you don't know your itinerary, buying this card would be nothing but beneficial to you. The location of every attraction is perfectly explained on the website and on the booklet. I wish this type of cards existed for every city in the world!

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass:

easy to purchase online; pass was easy to use on android phone; I had no trouble accessing any of the attractions (Architecture River Cruise, Shed Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry). Although the attractions included the Museum of Science and Industry, the staff there did not know about this pass; they only offered the 5 attraction pass for purchase there.
