How it works

What is a Chicago Explorer Pass?

A Chicago Explorer Pass is a multi-attraction pass that includes admission to your choice of 3 or 5 Chicago attractions for one low price.

How does a Chicago Explorer Pass work?
  • Purchase a pass for the number of attractions you want to visit — we offer 3 or 5-Choice Passes.
  • Your Chicago Explorer Pass grants you admission to any of the 24 included attractions.
  • Simply present your pass at included attractions for admission. Pay nothing at the gate.
  • Visiting your first attraction activates your card. Then, use it within 30 days.
How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your mobile device and via email. Just print out your pass or display it right on your mobile device.

What else does the pass include?

You'll get a guide with hours of operation and directions for each attraction, and a map to help plan your itinerary.

Frequently Asked Questions Show All

Is this just a discount card? Will I still need to buy tickets?

No. Passes include admission to each attraction; no need to pay anything at the gate. Some attractions may offer upgrades or special exhibits for an additional fee.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

What is the age cut off for child tickets?

Child passes are for ages 3–12. Most attractions are free for children under 3.

How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your smart phone and via email!

  • Just print out your pass and guidebook.
  • Or, display it on your smart phone.
How do I activate my pass?

Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

Is the pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

What is your refund policy?

You'll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Compare the price of the pass to the gate prices of the attractions you want to visit to see how much you can save. Many customers save more than 50%. Or, check out some real savings examples from Go City Card customers to see how much they actually saved!

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in Chicago so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive in Chicago?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Does a Chicago Explorer Pass expire?

Yes. You have one year from the date of purchase to begin using your pass. After one year, it will expire.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

This symbol indicates that an attraction requires reservations.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. Chicago Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to Chicago as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The Chicago Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a Chicago Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass®:

We researched Chicago carefully and knew what we wanted to do. We knew that we would only cover three attractions and liked the flexibility of the Pass. Fast track for the amazing Art Institute was great. We also went to The Field museum and The Sears Tower. We made a reasonable saving, which has to be recommended.

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass®:

Overall is really great. The best thing is you really can save time waiting in lines. Only one disadvantage is sometimes you need to pay extra for exhibitions. Like Shedd Aquarium, you need to pay extra for shows and 3D movies.

It's a great product since you save money and skip lines of crowded attractions. It also give you a good idea of the attractions that are worth visiting (if you are not the kind of person that does not like or does not have the time to make research before the trip, as I am).

Comments about Smart Destinations Chicago Explorer Pass®:

Chicago is an awesome city but it was made even better by the use of the go citi cards . My girlfriend and I both purchased the five events card and really enjoyed the flexibility that it offered us. We only had time to do a total of 4 events so we went to the aquarium and found a young couple that was standing in line and purchase tickets for them as our way of paying it forward. Even with doing that we still got a great value out of the events that we did for the money that we paid. I will definitely shop here again in the future
