Be amazed by Chicago’s innovation, creativity and architecture.  CAF’s tours are famous around the world for one reason:  we train real Chicagoans to give real tours of the real city. CAF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring people to learn why design matters. Stop in today and take advantage of our free exhibitions, interesting lectures and award-winning retail shop.

Choose from more than 85 tours of the city and surrounding neighborhoods, passionate and knowledgeable docents will entertain you while teaching you about the historical and modern buildings that make Chicago the First City of American Architecture. Don’t leave without visiting CAF’s shop, one of Chicago’s most unique venues filled with modern and historically-inspired home décor, jewelry, architectural books and photography.

  • Chicago Model City: Extended by popular demand, this exhibit gives you a look at the diverse and complicated challenges faced by the city planners of this metropolis.  The centerpiece of this exhibit is a 320-square-foot model of downtown Chicago that lets you see the whole city from a unique angle.  It is the only accurate and up-to-date model of Chicago.  You’ll also see a 1950s model of the Eisenhower Expressway and Blue Line; an explanation of the 1909 “Plan of Chicago” and a model portraying the exciting green renovation of Willis (Sears) Tower.
  • CAF Tours are as diverse as the Chicagoan docents who lead them and go to a vast array of Chicago neighborhoods to point out the city’s most unusual and beautiful architecture. Don’t expect a pre-rehearsed, scripted tour…these building-savvy docents go impromptu, showing off their intimate knowledge of the city and its architecture. Old Town, Downtown, Magnificent Mile, Skyscrapers: Early Risers, Millennium Park, Deco Tours—the Foundation shows you anything and everything you desire to see when it comes to Chicago buildings!

  • The Chicago Architecture Foundation is the institute for architecture in this city.  Expect a high-quality experience that will leave you full of facts and knowledge about ‘The Windy City’ and its rise from a small town to the impressive metropolis it is today.

Don’t leave without visiting CAF’s shop, one of Chicago’s most unique venues, to check out the modern and historically-inspired home décor, jewelry, architectural books and photography.

Go SelectTip: be sure to rent the audio guide for CAF’s blockbuster exhibition, so you can hear local historians, planners and other experts discuss how a city as vast and complex as Chicago takes shape.
