The Museum's regular public hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm every day except Christmas Day. Last admission at 4:00 pm. All times CST.

Redemption Instructions

For fastest access to the Museum, Go Chicago Card holders should enter the Museum at the south entrance and proceed to the will-call desk.

Tip: During Spring Breaks, summers, holidays, and special occasions, the Museum frequently extends or shortens hours. Please check the website or call for details.

Note

Special exhibitions are not typically included with the free general admission with a Go Chicago Card or Chicago Explorer Pass. Additional admission upgrade may be paid at Museum; based on availability.

Driving Directions

From the City, north of the Field Museum: Take Lake Shore Drive (US-41) south past Grant Park. Continue south until the 18th street exit. Turn left on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.

From the City, south of the Field Museum: Take Lake Shore Drive (US-41) north. Continue on Lake Shore Drive until the 18th street exit. Turn right on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.

Public Transportation

CTA Trains: Take the Red, Green or Orange line to Roosevelt, transfer to an eastbound #146 Roosevelt bus which will drop you off acrss the street from the Field Museum.

CTA buses: #146 stops along Michigan Avenue north of the river and on State south of it provide regular daily service directly to a stop across from the Field Museum;

CTA bus #6, the Jeffery Express, also stops on State Street between Wacker and Congress. This bus stops at Roosevelt Road and Columbus Drive. Cross Columbus Drive and walk east through the Museum Campus to reach The Field Museum.

Resembling a Greek temple, the Field Museum in Chicago features exhibits for everyone to enjoy. In addition to "Sue", the most complete Tyrannasaurus rex fossil, the museum also allows visitors to explore the McDonald Fossil Prep lab where the Field Museum’s fossils are prepared for display. The Grainger Hall of Gems contains one of the largest collections of gems and stones in the world. One of the highlights of the exhibition hall includes the Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass window and Chinese Jade, some of which is over 8,000 years old. The museum also showcases the chapel of Unis-Ankh’s tomb, the son of the Pharoah Unas. Visitors can have experience research firsthand at the DNA Discovery Center where they can observe scientists extract DNA from different creatures and ask questions.

The Field Museum has something to offer for the scientist and child in all of us. Some of its permanent collection includes the following exhibits:

The cost of the All Access Pass upgrade is $17 ($12 for a child), purchasable directly from the Field Museum. Don’t want to see all four? You can instead buy a ticket to a single exhibition for $10 ($7 for a child) payable directly to the Field Museum.
