Take a ride on the Endangered Species Carousel located next to the Lion House, a Chicago landmark. Enjoy the hand carved and beautifully hand painted animals in need of protection. The young and the young at heart will all have fun hanging around with the colorful replicas of baby gorillas, polar bears, wild dogs and more.
All aboard! Across from the Seal Pool, kids can ride a train built just for them. Just pick the animal themed car and let the conductor take you and the steam locomotive styled train away.
And while you use your Go Chicago Card for a free ride on the Carousel, be sure to check out the rest of Lincol Park Zoo where a lion’s roar echoing off nearby buildings announces that you’ve arrived.
Just steps north of downtown, animals thrive in rainforests, savannahs and other habitats. See marine mammals in the Sea Lion Pool and chimpanzees and gorillas in the Center for African Apes. Kids of all ages will enjoy Farm-in-the-Zoo, the animals (and cool water spray from sidewalk fountains) in the Children’s Zoo, and exhibits housing birds of prey, bears, penguins and much more. Cruise South Lake Lagoon in a paddle boat, then stroll the blooming grounds to one of many restaurants including the new Café at Wild Things - serving delicious foods from local farmers. Lincoln Park Zoo is open every day and is always free.
