Of course you’ve heard of the Sears Tower—it’s the famous skyscraper that gave the Empire State Building a serious run for its money, although you should know it’s now called the Willis Tower after a London-based insurance firm bought the naming rights to the building in 2009, and leased out space on three floors of the building. More importantly, you can see the whole of metropolitan Chicago plus 360-degree views of up to four states from atop its awesome observatory; Skydeck Chicago! Voted as one of the “7 Wonders of Chicago”, the Willis Tower still holds the title as the Western hemisphere’s tallest building, and is the world’s fifth tallest building. If you come to Chicago, and haven’t taken a trip up this building, you haven’t really ‘done’ Chicago.

If you’ve ever seen Chicago on a map, you’ll know that the size of this city is nothing to be scoffed at, with hundreds of neighborhoods and suburbs stretching for miles and miles. You can see the whole sprawling metropolis and miles out into each direction from atop the Skydeck. Remember, this is a 360-degree observatory, meaning there’s no direction from which you can’t see. You can even look down….1,353 feet down, to be precise! “The Ledge” is a tantalizing, all-glass balcony that extends four feet outside the building’s edge, letting you truly experience “life on the edge”. Take a photo of yourself “floating” above the city of Chicago and amaze your friends back home!

1353 feet, 412 meters, 103 floors. That’s a lot of tower! This tour will take you to the very top. Skydeck Chicago recommends checking out the sunset calendar and possibly visiting around dusk to watch as the lights of the city flicker on in a magical display. What a spectacular way to end a full day of sightseeing!

Skydeck Chicago at the Willis (Sears) Tower is easily accessible from the other hotspots of Chicago. It’s walking distance from Union Station and a short ride from the Magnificent Mile and Museum Campus. Don’t miss this opportunity to stand at the highest point on any building in the Western Hemisphere and look out at the beautiful Midwestern horizon!

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

We purchased our tickets prior to going to Chicago which came highly recommended by most of our friends. With the prepurchased tickets we were able to skip the line and head straight up to the SkyDeck! What could have been a two hour wait was not even 10 minutes. What's more glorious is we had a relative with us that did not purchase a ticket prior and he moved ahead of the ticket line because of us!!!! I highly recommend this company for your travels!!! We are already checking into the deals we can get when we travel with our children to San Diego Ca!!!!! Thank you Smart Destinations!!!!

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

This is a wonderful way to get a great 360 degree view of the city of Chicago. It was really amazing. We liked that the Go Card got us into the video quickly. However, we were still bunched into the elevator with a lot of people and the area was very crowded. Overall it was well worth it because when we finally got to the Sky Deck it was a gorgeous view of the city. Well worth the time we spent here.

Great view

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

My son insisted on going up the tower to stand on the famous skydeck. He didn't find the preadmission "tour" interesting as it was quite over his head for a 9yr old. But once we took the fast (and nauseating) elevator ride up the view of the city was all I cared about. It was a wonderful view of the lakeshore and the downtown. Just fantastic. My son was a bit disappointed in the "skydeck" as he was expecting it to be a bit bigger, more dramatic, but he still was quite fascinated with being out away from the building, "floating" above the street. It wasn't a big day filler, only about an hour of our time was spent there, but it was a good experience

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

So they changed the name from Sears Tower to Skydeck and/or Willis Tower. Guess someone bought the rights, but it's a pain when everyone still thinks of it as Sears Tower! But either way, amazing views!! The Ledge is very cool.

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

Couldn't figure out why a 2hr block of time should be alloted. Brief break down for you: line to get into the elevators, brief ride, another line to check in (we went in the evening, so not bad)for tickets or clearing your pass(we had Explorer, so no line advantage given), then time incriment of wait due to a intro-movie, watch intro-movie (was interesting), another line, brief elevator ride(packed in), finally reaching the deck. Great view on the whole floor no matter where you stand, brief lines for the "glass rooms", a bit creepy at first, but then you relax a little and can enjoy the amazingness of what you are experiencing. You do not have a time limit once you are up there...history stuff to read on the inside walls, restrooms, and a candy/souvenier spot.

Comments about Smart Destinations SkyDeck Chicago - Willis Tower:

The Go Chicago card just made it so much easier to navigate our entry into the sky deck attraction. We were hesitant about skipping the line, but that's really what you are meant to do. Your card acts like a ticket to the attraction and you hand it to the ticket collector. Fantastic.
