The Shedd Aquarium lies on the shores of Lake Michigan, a gateway to an underwater world unlike anything you've ever experienced.

Sharks patrol, jellies pulse, and fishes from around the world school together. Shedd Aquarium is a destination where guests become explorers.

Have you ever head-bobbed with a blue iguana on a desert island? Gotten eye-to-eye with a piranha in the Amazon? Or followed a sea turtle as she cruised through the Caribbean? With more than 32,500 animals from 1,500 species, it's all possible at Shedd.

You can even have an up-close and personal encounter with dozens of sharks in Wild Reef. Floor-to-ceiling exhibit windows give you a diver's-eye view of a Philippines coral reef, teeming with live corals and more than 500 species of reef fishes of all shapes, colors and sizes.

Redemption Instructions

Please present your Go Chicago Card to any ticket taker. They will validate it, return your card, and let you in.

On rare occasions this attraction closes early due to private functions, outside of the control of Go Chicago Card.

Note

The Shedd Aquarium will be closed two days in January, Monday the 23rd, and Tuesday the 24th.

Driving Directions

From Lake Shore Drive, exit at 18th Street. Follow Museum Campus Drive around Soldier Field. Signs will indicate visitor parking. Shedd Aquarium is just north of the parking garage and the Field Museum.

Public Transportation

Take CTA: Red, Orange, or Green Line to the Roosevelt Road/Museum Campus stop. Take CTA bus #146 from points north or south.

Meet some of the aquarium’s most fascinating creatures. Granddad, for example, is Shedd’s resident Australian lungfish, known to be the oldest fish in any of the world’s aquariums. The Shedd Aquarium recently welcomed a new member: a female beluga whale calf named Naya, born to another beluga at the aquarium named Puiji. Each of the animals at the aquarium has a unique story which they would love to share with their visitors.

Enjoy the Aquatic Show at the Shedd aquarium for an extra $4 with your Go Chicago Card (tickets can be purchased at the Shedd box office). Aquatic offers an exposé of acrobatic and comedic feats performed by some of the aquarium’s most beloved residents. Watch beluga whales gracefully dance, a red-tailed hawk fly overhead, and the flips and tricks of the Pacific White-sided dolphins.

Wonderful aquarium and amazing location! But don't waste your time and money to see the aquatic show. What a let down! We almost left during the performance and only stayed by respect to the artists (?) who have to perform this boring show over and over again...

My son and I spent a whole day at the aquarium. We enjoyed the exhibits, the live show and the movies. It was very busy but the lines moved along well. There was a huge variety of species to learn about. My son was completely entertained all day, never complained of boredom!

Used it today, we skipped the line that was down the stairs, went into the "Will Call" doors and gave them our cards. Nice, especially since it was around 90 degrees today! The kids loved the exhibits & we enjoyed the day too.

having the chicago go card to vist the sheed aquarium was the best thing ever, we went the Sunday before Memorial day around 11am and the line went all the way down the stairs and around probably 2 miles and it was super hot that day, So it was really nice to just be able to walk right in and not be one of those people standing in line waiting to get in under an 85 degrees weather.

We visited the Shedd on a Saturday, so we knew it would be very crowded....but what I didn't expect was that the line went all the way down the front stairs of the aquarium. I was SO relieved to find out that we did not actually have to wait in it. With the GoChicago card, we went all the way up the stairs past the line (felt a little bit bad, but not really!) and walked right in. They just run your card through a machine at the desk inside and you are on your way. Really made our day go faster.
