If you're spending the holiday season in Oahu, you can enjoy the warm weather and leisurely beach days without missing out on the spirit of the season! The island of Oahu is hosting a variety of festive events this holiday season—all of them enhanced with a bit of Hawaiian flair.
November 12 – December 20
The surf's up during the holiday season in Hawaii; some of the biggest and most powerful waves in the world descend upon the islands in November and December. This means it's time again for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the most prestigious event series for professional surfers. Make sure to hit the North Shore to check out some of the exhilarating action on the water.
Every year, this unique holiday parade kicks off the season for Oahu locals while commemorating Pearl Harbor survivors and the anniversary of the attacks. The parade features local school marching bands, service bands, military units, Pearl Harbor survivors, and other entertainers decked out in Santa hats and leis.
The biggest holiday event on the island, Honolulu City Lights is a festival you can't miss! The main events are the lighting of the elaborately decorated 50-foot city Christmas tree and the procession of the Electric Light Parade. The event also features the holiday concert at the Sky Gate Stage, pictures and visits with Santa for kids, a decorated tree display and wreath contest, and tons of Hawaiian holiday booths for souvenirs and novelties. The lights and holiday cheer will last throughout the month of December.
This holiday family event has become one of the biggest and best traditions on the island. The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation present the Gingerbread Family Festival for the benefit of Easter Seals Hawaii. Over 6,000 participants compete in this friendly rivalry to build the best house, resulting in over 1,400 ornate gingerbread houses!
The annual Honolulu Marathon is one of the world's largest marathons, drawing in competitors from all over the world. Thousands of spectators gather to watch this event and take part in the week of marathon-related activities, including the enormous Honolulu Marathon Expo.
December 16 – 18
