After your film, don’t pass up the chance to check out the California Science Center, which is conveniently located in near downtown Los Angeles and provides an exciting venue for learning and interactive thrills, regardless of your age. In addition to over 100 permanent hands-on exhibits and a seven-story IMAX Theater, the Science Center also rotates special exhibitions throughout the year, focusing on a specific theme within science, mathematics, technology and art. Here is a preview of the exhibits you can expect to see in the galleries of California Science Center:
Ecosystems: This new exhibit brings you a look at how life on our planet is shaped by its unique geophysical and biological processes. You’ll walk through even the most inhospitable environments of the planet, learning about eight different zones.
Creative World: Everything from digital imagery to solar cars, you’ll learn about the benefits and the often overlooked consequences of innovation.
World of Life: From the single-celled amoeba to the 100-trillion celled human being, this exhibit explores the connections with a trip down its “Life Tunnel”.
Air & Space Exhibits: A collection of artifacts and hands-on activities across the many areas of human ingenuity and science, including “Air & Aircraft”, “Humans in Space”, “Missions to the Planets”, “Stars & Telescopes”, “Space Shuttle Endeavour”, and information from the mission to Saturn in “Cassini-Huygens Mission Updates”.
Science Court: A fun-filled space featuring science demos, special exhibits, and bike you can ride across a cable three stories above ground! Also features a motion-based simulator and an “Ecology Cliff Climb”.
Science Plaza: Explore the connections between art and science in this gallery that looks at DNA, skylight, chromosomes and the galaxy, and the works of artist Larry Kirkland—the artist behind Science Plaza! Kirkland has also created art for the Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, as well as for the airport in Osaka, Japan, and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore!
California Science Center also features special temporary exhibits such as: Science in Toyland, a world of spinning tops, dominoes and mini roller coasters; 1001 Inventions, a look at the scientific contributions by men and women during the Golden Age of Muslim civilization; and After Life, an exhibit devoted to the shared human experience of grasping to understand the end of life as we know it.
