There is no better way to get to know the Sunshine State than by getting to know its most exciting attribute—its aquatic life. Dolphins, killer whales, manatee, sharks, turtle… Florida has it all. The Miami Seaquarium provides a full day of fun for visitors of all ages, and given its setting on 38 acres of tropical paradise, you’ll see Florida nature at its finest. In addition to a whole day’s worth of exhibits, shows, and presentations, visitors can opt to swim with the dolphins or play dolphin trainer for a day (reservations required and special pricing applies).

What will you see at Miami Seaquarium?

Top Deck Dolphin Show: Experience a performance by playful bottlenose dolphins (a true Florida experience!) Get in the “splash zone” for a closer look at the dolphin show, if you don’t mind getting wet. It’s all part of the fun! Top Deck dolphins can be viewed any time from above or below the water. The Miami Aquarium is home to dolphins of all ages—keep your eyes open and you might even see a baby!

Golden Dome Sea Lion Show: Salty the Sea Lion and co. put on quite a show, demonstrating their athletic prowess and comedic skills. The show also features a cameo by Salty’s harbor seal buddy. Too cute to miss!

Killer Whale and Dolphin Show: Lolita the Killer Whale and her Pacific white-sided dolphin buddies show off their natural beauty and intellect with the help of trainers and guests. Watch Lolita “walk” on water!

Shark Channel Presentation: Watch as animal care specialists feed 200-pound sharks and learn about the various shark species that inhabit waterways around the world.

Tropical Reef Presentation: 750,000 gallons of saltwater teeming with reef fishes of every size and color. Watch a diver swim through the tank and feed fish, eels, and loggerhead turtles.

Manatee Presentation: See the gentle Florida manatee through poolside and underwater viewing areas. Learn all about this endangered and amazing marine mammal. (Guaranteed to steal a piece of your heart!)

Seal and Sea Lion Feeder Pool: Feed the seals! Daily feeding sessions let you get up-close to playful California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals.

Discovery Bay Presentation: See alligators, sea turtles, endemic birds, fish and other wildlife in an authentic mangrove environment.

Tropical Wings: Meet (and gently touch) the Miami Seaquarium’s newest residents—Southern and Cownose Stingrays, in a 10,000-gallon touch pool.

Crocodile Flats: This exhibit, at Discovery Bay’s Upper Island, is home to 25 Nile Crocodiles who live on 32 tons of rock, 72 tons of beach sand, in the shade of coconut and sable palm trees. These threatening-looking crocs are as long as 16 feet, and as heavy as 1,000 lbs (but we don’t recommend trying to pick one up).

Fun place to stop and visit
By Florida Vacationer Verified Reviewer from Miami and Fort Lauderdale, FL on
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations :

I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews. I have not been to seaworld since I was a child so I cannot relate to that. That being said I thought this was a great stop. There were many things to see and do. The park is small though and you can see everything in about half a day. I would recomend going in the morning when they first open and you can see almost all the shows by 1. The shows themselves are entertaining and fun. Make sure to arrive early if you care about getting a good seat. The place was pretty busy when we were there. There are several exhibits including orcas, two different dolphin shows, sting rays, manatee and some sharks. There is also a small water park for kids to cool off. It was a good stop using the Miami go pass.

Paired this up with the South Beach Duck tour. Shows at the Seaquarium were fun. The kids (ages 6 & 11) really enjoyed it! Plan half a day.

Comments about Smart Destinations :

We enjoyed the seaquarium very much. Plan ahead and try to get on a behind the scene tour or experience, well worth it. Arrive at shows early as they do get very full. Enjoyed the park.

Not an educational experience
By nab from Boston, MA on
Pros:
Good for kids
Cons:
Far from the city
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations :

I had expected this to be more like a traditional aquarium with an educational/preservation slant to it. Instead it felt like it was built for entertainment and making money. The spaces for the animals seemed small and very basic. Nevertheless, the shows they do would definitely wow any kid; it's probably better for young children than adults.

Pretty Cool
By Trish from Chattanooga TN on
Pros:
Really cool shows
Cons:
Not as clean as I'd like Food was really expensive
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations :

We enjoyed this alot. The shows were really good. Its not a waste of time, just don't put your expectations too high and you'll have fun. They could definitely clean more, and have more reasonable prices on their concessions. Overall, we had a good time but probably wouldn't go back for a second look. First time is okay though.
