Paddleboarding is a surface water sport, not entirely unlike surfing. The sport took off in the early 1900s in Hawaii, and while the early paddleboards were made of wood, today’s boards are lightweight, made of either fiberglass or carbon fiber. They average about ten feet in length, and paddleboarders are given a lightweight paddle with which to propel themselves into the surf, and to use as a rowing device when standing.
