A visit to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens arouses your senses. First, pass through Vizcaya's lush subtropical forest and approach the Main House along a fountain- and foliage-lined walkway. The inside of the house is filled with treasures from around the world. Outside, enjoy spectacular views of Biscayne Bay and the serene, thought-provoking gardens and the statues that inhabit them. Marvel at the gallery of orchids in the David A. Klein Orchidarium. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark, and you are invited to visit this stunningly beautiful retreat from the bustle of modern Miami. Vizcaya was built by American industrialist James Deering, who wintered on the property from 1916-1925. Today, the extraordinary European-inspired estate includes a house filled with art and furnishings, ten acres of gardens on Biscayne Bay, a native hardwood hammock, and a historic village that is being restored for public enjoyment. With its phenomenal human-made and natural resources, Vizcaya introduces visitors to America's Gilded Age, and Miami's place in this history-a time when America's wealthiest industrialists created lavish homes inspired by the palaces of Europe.

Comments aboutSmart Destinations :
We weren't sure if we should do this one. Boy were we glad we did. Absolutely gorgeous AND facsinating. If you love history, architecture, or just plain quality you will love this. The museum was absolutely gorgeous, as were the gardens. This was a good one.
