How it works

What is a New York Explorer Pass?

A New York Explorer Pass is a multi-attraction pass that includes admission to your choice of 3, 5, 7, or 10 New York attractions for one low price.

How does a New York Explorer Pass work?
  • Purchase a pass for the number of attractions you want to visit — we offer 3, 5, 7, or 10-Choice Passes.
  • Your New York Explorer Pass grants you admission to any of the 56 included attractions.
  • Simply present your pass at included attractions for admission. Pay nothing at the gate.
  • Visiting your first attraction activates your card. Then, use it within 30 days.
How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your mobile device and via email. Just print out your pass or display it right on your mobile device.

What else does the pass include?

You'll get a guide with hours of operation and directions for each attraction, and a map to help plan your itinerary.

Plus extra dining, shopping and entertainment discounts to help you save even more along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions Show All

Is this just a discount card? Will I still need to buy tickets?

No. Passes include admission to each attraction; no need to pay anything at the gate. Some attractions may offer upgrades or special exhibits for an additional fee.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

What is the age cut off for child tickets?

Child passes are for ages 3–12. Most attractions are free for children under 3.

How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your smart phone and via email!

  • Just print out your pass and guidebook.
  • Or, display it on your smart phone.
How do I activate my pass?

Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

Is the pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

What is your refund policy?

You'll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Try our Savings Calculator to easily compare the combined gate prices of the attractions you want to visit with the price of the New York Explorer Pass. Or, check out some real savings examples from Go City Card customers to see how much they actually saved!

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in New York so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive in New York?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Does a New York Explorer Pass expire?

Yes. You have one year from the date of purchase to begin using your pass. After one year, it will expire.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

This symbol indicates that an attraction requires reservations.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

If you are interested in taking the Gossip Girl, NY TV and Movie Tour and Sex and the City Tour, you should pick up your tickets as soon as possible after arriving in the city.

How do I use my pass to visit the Statue of Liberty?

Present your New York Explorer Pass at one of the Statue Cruises ticket counters inside Castle Clinton at Battery Park.

Once you have obtained your Ferry Ticket from Castle Clinton you must wait in the security line before boarding.

The Ferry requires is airport-level security, so be prepared for a long wait. Allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 4 hours to visit Ellis & Liberty islands.

Your pass provides you access to the island only. Pedestal & crown access requires reservations and space is limited, and is not included with your pass.

How do CitySights NY Tours work?

Each NYC Explorer Pass holder may choose one of the following tours:

  • All Around Tour (requires a $14.00 upgrade fee)
  • Brooklyn Tour
  • Downtown Tour (Hop On Hop Off) Bonus Brooklyn
  • Multilingual Upper and Lower Manhattan Tour
  • Uptown Treasures of Harem Tour
  • Night Tour
  • Woodbury Common Premium Outlets Day Trip

Once you decide which tour you would like to take, present your Explorer Pass at one of the CitySights NY Ticket Desks:

  • Times Square: Madame Tussauds (1540 Broadway 45th St & 7th Ave)
  • David Rubinstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (61 W. 62nd St, entrance on Broadway & Columbus)

You will receive a ticket for the bus tour of your choice and they will provide a map to your departure.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. New York Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to New York as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The New York Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a New York Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

I still have questions!

Best Uses:

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

We got good value out of the NY Explorer but be aware that the pass does not include entry to the World Trade Center museum. If you read the details it does say this but it is easy to miss before you purchase it. Also check what days some attractions run - i.e. the Sopranos tour only runs once a week. Overall recommended if you plan out the attractions you want to see.

Good value pass

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Buying the explorer pass gave us an incentive to see more than we would have attempted. It was frustrating not to be able to bypass lines or pre-book some attractions over the phone. I suspect it works best out of peak times.

They put a pass on your phone but you still need to wait in huge lines to actually get an entrance ticket. Lots of other ways to get discount tickets without pressure of prepaid having to spend the balance

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

I come to NYC a lot. And I just started using the NY Explorer Pass, it makes a lot of sense, both in terms of time and money. I picked a five attraction pass, used it in two days and saved about $70 on admissions. My only complaint is that it's not clear when you want to use the Gray Line Hop On/Off NYC Bus Tour that you must go to the Port Authority Bus Terminal midtown to get your ticket and start the tour. I wound up walking from Bryant Park to Rockefeller Center only to learn that I had to go to PA Terminal to start. Not far really, but it was about 20 degrees in NY that day and I was cold. Sit on the upper deck of the bus and dress warmly in winter, partially closed top is chilly. (My feet were frozen by the end) But it is a terriffic tour--I grew up on Long Island and still didn't know many of the facts about the buildings and history of this amazing city. Don't miss it!

I would definitly purchase this product again
By Cindy B from New Westminster, BC Canada on
Pros:
Skip the lines Benefit, Flexible Schedule, Money Saver, User-friendly system
Cons:
911 main museum not included. Not advised well.,
Best Uses:
General Sightseeing, Active travelers, Budget Travelers, Culture enthusiasts Short Stays
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Disappointed that the main 911 museum not included - info online did not explain this well (did not describe the difference between the 2 museums). Everywhere the pass was used, it was easy - all the attractions knew what to do with the pass.

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Great for flexibility and the range of attractions. We brought the 3 Choice Pass. Choose carefully which attractions you want to use. Not useful for those attractions which are very popular and need to be booked well in advance. We booked those separately and directly with those attractions.

We purchased the city pass for our trip to New York City as it provided discount cost for many of the attractions we had on our list to see during our stay. It provided great directions to the attractions and was very user friendly.;
