What is a New York Explorer Pass?

A New York Explorer Pass is a multi-attraction pass that includes admission to your choice of 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 New York attractions for one low price.

How does a New York Explorer Pass work?
  • Purchase a pass for the number of attractions you want to visit — we offer 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10-Choice Passes.
  • Your New York Explorer Pass gets you into any of the 62 included attractions. No need to decide before your trip, choose as you go from the options included with your pass.
  • Simply present your pass at included attractions for admission. Pay nothing at the gate.
  • Visiting your first attraction activates your card. Then, you’ll have 30 days to use your pass.
How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your mobile device and via email. Just print out your pass or display it right on your mobile device.

What else does the pass include?

You'll get a guide with hours of operation and directions for each attraction, and a map to help plan your itinerary.

Plus extra dining, shopping and entertainment discounts to help you save even more along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions Show All

Is this just a discount card? Will I still need to buy tickets?

No. Passes include admission to each attraction; no need to pay anything at the gate. Some attractions may offer upgrades or special exhibits for an additional fee.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

My child is under 3 years old. Can I get them a New York Explorer Pass?

Child Passes are recommended for children ages 3-12. Many attractions offer free admission for younger children. Please consult the attraction websites for more details.

How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your smart phone and via email!

  • Just print out your pass and guidebook.
  • Or, display it on your smart phone.
How do I activate my pass?

Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

Is the pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

What is your refund policy?

You'll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Try our Savings Calculator to easily compare the combined gate prices of the attractions you want to visit with the price of the New York Explorer Pass. Or, check out some real savings examples from Go City Card customers to see how much they actually saved!

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in New York so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive in New York?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Does a New York Explorer Pass expire?

Yes. You have one year from the date of purchase to begin using your pass. After one year, it will expire.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

Attractions that require a reservation will display this symbol on the guidebook page.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

If you are interested in taking the Gossip Girl, NY TV and Movie Tour and Sex and the City Tour, you should pick up your tickets as soon as possible after arriving in the city.

How do I use my pass to visit the Statue of Liberty?

Present your New York Explorer Pass at one of the Statue Cruises ticket counters inside Castle Clinton at Battery Park.

Once you have obtained your Ferry Ticket from Castle Clinton you must wait in the security line before boarding.

The Ferry requires is airport-level security, so be prepared for a long wait. Allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 4 hours to visit Ellis & Liberty islands.

Your pass provides you access to the island only. Pedestal & crown access requires reservations and space is limited, and is not included with your pass.

How do CitySights NY Tours work?

Each NYC Explorer Pass holder may choose one of the following tours:

  • All Around Tour (requires a $14.00 upgrade fee)
  • Brooklyn Tour
  • Downtown Tour (Hop On Hop Off) Bonus Brooklyn
  • Multilingual Upper and Lower Manhattan Tour
  • Uptown Treasures of Harem Tour
  • Night Tour
  • Woodbury Common Premium Outlets Day Trip

Once you decide which tour you would like to take, present your Explorer Pass at one of the CitySights NY Ticket Desks:

  • Times Square: Madame Tussauds (1540 Broadway 45th St & 7th Ave)
  • David Rubinstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (61 W. 62nd St, entrance on Broadway & Columbus)

You will receive a ticket for the bus tour of your choice and they will provide a map to your departure.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. New York Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to New York as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The New York Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a New York Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

After scheduling a long weekend trip to NYC for my 10yr old daughter and my mother, I looked into the City Pass, NYC Pass and the Explorer Pass. The Explorer Pass won HANDS DOWN. We saw everything we wanted, at half the cost, with the flexibility to choose what we wanted to to do each day. You aren't physically capable of visiting enough sites to make the other two passes a good value, unless you RUSH AND RUN the whole day. This pass lets you choose the number of attractions and you decide when to go see them! Last minute ordering is VERY easy, and I had no problems using it by showing my phone to ANY of the attractions. There are also discounts given to attractions that aren't included, like Madame Tussaud's, and we skipped almost all the lines! I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see 2-3 attractions a day! It is SO easy to use and SO much cheaper than the other passes! We had a blast thanks to our pass!

Smart Destinations Response: Wow! We are so happy to hear you had such a positive experience using the New York Explorer Pass. Thank you so much for your kind review.

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

My husband and I chose the pass that allowed us to see 3 attractions, as we were going to be in NYC for only a few days. We were able to attend two of the venues, but, unfortunately, my husband became really ill, causing us to miss the third attraction we were planning to attend on our last full day there. Hence, if you are thinking of purchasing this pass, make sure you get one that you know you will be able to use to its fullest extent.

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

I´ve used the card twice in New York.- It was very convinient for a familiy of 5.- This time happened that we asked for information in the wrong place, and the people there didn´t tell us or didn´t realize it was a different card so they gave us wrong information.- Luckly we could solve the problem.-
