What is a New York Explorer Pass?

A New York Explorer Pass is a multi-attraction pass that includes admission to your choice of 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 New York attractions for one low price.

How does a New York Explorer Pass work?
  • Purchase a pass for the number of attractions you want to visit — we offer 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10-Choice Passes.
  • Your New York Explorer Pass gets you into any of the 58 included attractions. No need to decide before your trip, choose as you go from the options included with your pass.
  • Simply present your pass at included attractions for admission. Pay nothing at the gate.
  • Visiting your first attraction activates your card. Then, you’ll have 30 days to use your pass.
How will I get my pass?

Instantly! Choose between 2 options:

  • Use your pass right on your phone with the free Go City Card app.
  • Print your pass and guidebook at home.

Links and easy-to-follow instructions for both options will be in your confirmation email.

What else does the pass include?

You'll get a guide with hours of operation and directions for each attraction, and a map to help plan your itinerary.

Plus extra dining, shopping and entertainment discounts to help you save even more along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions Show All

Is this just a discount card? Will I still need to buy tickets?

No. Passes include admission to each attraction; no need to pay anything at the gate. Some attractions may offer upgrades or special exhibits for an additional fee.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

My child is under 3 years old. Can I get them a New York Explorer Pass?

Child Passes are recommended for children ages 3-12. Many attractions offer free admission for younger children. Please consult the attraction websites for more details.

How will I get my pass?

Instantly! Choose between 2 options:

  • Use your pass right on your phone with the free Go City Card app.
  • Print your pass and guidebook at home.

Links and easy-to-follow instructions for both options will be in your confirmation email.

How do I activate my pass?

Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

Is the pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

What is your refund policy?

You'll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Try our Savings Calculator to easily compare the combined gate prices of the attractions you want to visit with the price of the New York Explorer Pass. Or, check out some real savings examples from Go City Card customers to see how much they actually saved!

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in New York so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive in New York?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Does a New York Explorer Pass expire?

Yes. You have one year from the date of purchase to begin using your pass. After one year, it will expire.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

Attractions that require a reservation will display this symbol on the guidebook page.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

If you are interested in taking the Gossip Girl, NY TV and Movie Tour and Sex and the City Tour, you should pick up your tickets as soon as possible after arriving in the city.

How do I use my pass to visit the Statue of Liberty?

Present your New York Explorer Pass at one of the Statue Cruises ticket counters inside Castle Clinton at Battery Park.

Once you have obtained your Ferry Ticket from Castle Clinton you must wait in the security line before boarding.

The Ferry requires is airport-level security, so be prepared for a long wait. Allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 4 hours to visit Ellis & Liberty islands.

Your pass provides you access to the island only. Pedestal & crown access requires reservations and space is limited, and is not included with your pass.

How do CitySights NY Tours work?

Each NYC Explorer Pass holder may choose one of the following tours:

  • All Around Tour (requires a $14.00 upgrade fee)
  • Brooklyn Tour
  • Downtown Tour (Hop On Hop Off) Bonus Brooklyn
  • Multilingual Upper and Lower Manhattan Tour
  • Uptown Treasures of Harem Tour
  • Night Tour
  • Woodbury Common Premium Outlets Day Trip

Once you decide which tour you would like to take, present your Explorer Pass at one of the CitySights NY Ticket Desks:

  • Times Square: Madame Tussauds (1540 Broadway 45th St & 7th Ave)
  • David Rubinstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (61 W. 62nd St, entrance on Broadway & Columbus)

You will receive a ticket for the bus tour of your choice and they will provide a map to your departure.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. New York Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to New York as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The New York Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a New York Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

I still have questions!

We took our 6 kids and my dad on a 4 day New York tour and this deal was the best thing we could have purchased. The bus tour alone would have cost $50 per person but we were able to do so much more. I am so thankful for this deal and will do it again in a heartbeat.

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

This pass provides a lot of flexibility as it allows me to choose the number of places to visit based on my own schedule. However, some of the places to visit covered by the pass are not cheaper compared to paying the tickets/ entrance fee individually.

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

The 9/11 exhibit is not the Museum and memorial! Buyer beware!

Smart Destinations Response: Hi LH, This is correct. The 9/11 Memorial Museum is not the 9/11 Tribute Center and Walking Tour- these are two separate attractions. The latter is included and is run by volunteer curators—including retired firefighters, police officers, and surviving family members—give their personal accounts of the attack.

Use: simply show the code; Great: simple, cheap and confortable; Bad: we ended up using one attraction that we would not go unless we had one voucher for it

Plenty to Choose From

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

We picked four for the two weekdays we were in New York. This does save money and we didn't have any problems using the pass anywhere. For the Empire State Building we still waited for at least 30-40 minutes before getting tickets and another hour plus before making it to the top. It would have been better use of my time to buy the tickets ahead of time instead of waiting in line. We also paid the extra $5 for a boat ride around the island and did the 48-hour Hop On/Off bus tour. The bus takes 2-5 hours without hopping-on or -off and the time it takes limited our last option. We were blessed/cursed to have Senor Frogs as an option. It was getting late and this was the last option we had that was still available and close to Times Square. The restaurant closed a few days after going there and I am happy to see that it looks like this site already took it down from an option. We didn't get a souvenir cup as others have stated on other websites and had the worst dining experience in years. The reason for the deduction of one star is that the issues many others had with the restaurant should have been addressed.

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

We were able to see the highlighted tourist attractions for a reasonable cost. For a special treat, NOT INCLUDED in the pass we had brunch at 230 Fifth Rooftop. If you have the opportunity you will not be disappointed.
