How it works

What is a New York Explorer Pass?

A New York Explorer Pass is a multi-attraction pass that includes admission to your choice of 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 New York attractions for one low price.

How does a New York Explorer Pass work?
  • Purchase a pass for the number of attractions you want to visit — we offer 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10-Choice Passes.
  • Your New York Explorer Pass gets you into any of the 64 included attractions. No need to decide before your trip, choose as you go from the options included with your pass.
  • Simply present your pass at included attractions for admission. Pay nothing at the gate.
  • Visiting your first attraction activates your card. Then, you’ll have 30 days to use your pass.
How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your mobile device and via email. Just print out your pass or display it right on your mobile device.

What else does the pass include?

You'll get a guide with hours of operation and directions for each attraction, and a map to help plan your itinerary.

Plus extra dining, shopping and entertainment discounts to help you save even more along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions Show All

Is this just a discount card? Will I still need to buy tickets?

No. Passes include admission to each attraction; no need to pay anything at the gate. Some attractions may offer upgrades or special exhibits for an additional fee.

Do I need to choose my attractions in advance?

Nope, choose as you go. The pass is good for any combination of the number of attractions you purchased.

What is the age cut off for child tickets?

Child passes are for ages 3-12. Most attractions are free for children under 3. Please check the attraction websites for more details.

How will I get my pass?

Instantly on your smart phone and via email!

  • Just print out your pass and guidebook.
  • Or, display it on your smart phone.
How do I activate my pass?

Easy: simply visit your first attraction!

Is the pass valid all day?

You bet! Feel free to visit the attractions any time of the day as long as they are open or operating.

What is your refund policy?

You'll have a full year from the day you purchase your passes to receive a full refund, as long as they are unused. However, the passes are non-refundable once they're activated.

How much will I save?

Try our Savings Calculator to easily compare the combined gate prices of the attractions you want to visit with the price of the New York Explorer Pass. Or, check out some real savings examples from Go City Card customers to see how much they actually saved!

We give you the flexibility to create your own itinerary and choose the attractions you want to visit depending on your interests.

For inspiration, check out some of our sample itineraries, insider tips, and more for info on all the fun things to do in New York so you can make the most of your time here.

Can I visit an attraction more than once?

No. Your pass includes only one visit per attraction.

Can I purchase passes on the spur of the moment when I arrive in New York?

Of course! With instant digital delivery, you can purchase and access passes right on your mobile device. Or, visit one of our local purchase locations.

Does a New York Explorer Pass expire?

Yes. You have one year from the date of purchase to begin using your pass. After one year, it will expire.

Do I need to make reservations to visit the attractions?

This symbol indicates that an attraction requires reservations.

Some attractions require a credit card to hold a reservation. In these cases, your credit card will not be charged unless you do not show up for your reservation.

If you are interested in taking the Gossip Girl, NY TV and Movie Tour and Sex and the City Tour, you should pick up your tickets as soon as possible after arriving in the city.

How do I use my pass to visit the Statue of Liberty?

Present your New York Explorer Pass at one of the Statue Cruises ticket counters inside Castle Clinton at Battery Park.

Once you have obtained your Ferry Ticket from Castle Clinton you must wait in the security line before boarding.

The Ferry requires is airport-level security, so be prepared for a long wait. Allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 4 hours to visit Ellis & Liberty islands.

Your pass provides you access to the island only. Pedestal & crown access requires reservations and space is limited, and is not included with your pass.

How do CitySights NY Tours work?

Each NYC Explorer Pass holder may choose one of the following tours:

  • All Around Tour (requires a $14.00 upgrade fee)
  • Brooklyn Tour
  • Downtown Tour (Hop On Hop Off) Bonus Brooklyn
  • Multilingual Upper and Lower Manhattan Tour
  • Uptown Treasures of Harem Tour
  • Night Tour
  • Woodbury Common Premium Outlets Day Trip

Once you decide which tour you would like to take, present your Explorer Pass at one of the CitySights NY Ticket Desks:

  • Times Square: Madame Tussauds (1540 Broadway 45th St & 7th Ave)
  • David Rubinstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (61 W. 62nd St, entrance on Broadway & Columbus)

You will receive a ticket for the bus tour of your choice and they will provide a map to your departure.

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. New York Explorer Pass has a partnership with all of the participating attractions to make your visit to New York as memorable as possible and to help you save time and money.

Can I share my pass with a friend or sell it?

No. The New York Explorer Pass is non-transferrable and may not be re-sold.

What happens if an attraction is closed or a tour is cancelled due to weather or other problem?

While we do our best to ensure that all attractions are available, events happen that are out of our control. The great thing about a New York Explorer Pass is that there are so many attractions to choose from. If an attraction is closed, or cannot be visited for some reason, we know you'll find a fun alternative in your guidebook!

I still have questions!

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Good to save money. No problems with handling at the attractions. The best is the validity of the card (no stress). Unfortunately no fast-tracks (only at MoMA). Most of the tour guides are irritating. To hear more than 2 hours personal political statements is exhausting! Hint: Book the additional tours to Bronx, Brookly and Harlem. It is worth. Big disadvantage: The card (you'll get it via email and have it as the print version) will not be changed into comfortable plastic card - so better to have more than one copy!

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Found out from a friend about this product. Easy to obtain and pay and loved how it could be sent to my phone instead of needing each ticket in hand. There is a great selection for NYC but I would say the only downfall is we would go some places and they would say that the explorer pass isn't accepted anymore. So the list needs to be updated other wise it is very inconvenient

Not worth it in the winter
By Sophie from London on
Pros:
Personalized Itinerary, Money Saver
Cons:
Few attractions included,
Best Uses:
Active travelers, General Sightseeing
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

The pass is a great idea and you save money. However, half of the things advertised aren't happening during the winter (ex. Food tours, Yankee stadium, cruises). That meant that I couldn't use all of the activities I purchased and also ended up doing things I didn't want to do just because there was nothing else available.

Good but read the fine print
By Ahleys from Perth, Western Australia on
Pros:
Money Saver, Flexible Schedule, Skip the lines Benefit
Best Uses:
Active travelers, Budget Travelers, General Sightseeing
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

We got good value out of the NY Explorer but be aware that the pass does not include entry to the World Trade Center museum. If you read the details it does say this but it is easy to miss before you purchase it. Also check what days some attractions run - i.e. the Sopranos tour only runs once a week. Overall recommended if you plan out the attractions you want to see.

Good value pass
By Zed from Boston on
Pros:
Helpful guide booklet, Must-see attractions included, Flexible Schedule, Personalized Itinerary, Money Saver
Cons:
Skip the lines not available, Less savings for children or students, Difficult to book/ access some attractions,
Best Uses:
Budget Travelers, General Sightseeing,
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations New York Explorer Pass®:

Buying the explorer pass gave us an incentive to see more than we would have attempted. It was frustrating not to be able to bypass lines or pre-book some attractions over the phone. I suspect it works best out of peak times.
