Description
Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an urban oasis, its strollable size and easily accessible location affording New Yorkers and visitors from around the globe a restorative sanctuary. BBG is a vital part of New York City and a resource for environmental learning and leisure, offering free and low-cost admission and programs, support to community gardeners and in-classroom lessons for enhancing science instruction in local schools. Situated on 52 acres, BBG is home to over 10,000 types of plants and hosts more than 725,000 visitors annually. Noted as the 'premier horticultural attraction in the region' by The New York Times, BBG is known as a 'Garden of Firsts,' including the first Japanese Garden created in an American public garden and one of the finest Japanese gardens outside Japan; the Alice Recknagel Ireys Fragrance Garden, the country's first garden created for the visually impaired; and the Children's Garden, noted as the oldest children's garden in continuous operation and a prototype for children's gardens throughout the world.
