What will you see, once you’ve parked your bike at Central Park Zoo? Here’s a preview of the highlights:
Mammals: The California sea lion, the mighty polar bear, snow monkeys, and even the incredibly rare and exotic snow leopard await you at the Central Park Zoo. You’ll even see red pandas—but don’t expect them to be big and playful like their black and white cousins! These gentle creatures look much more like raccoons, and are most active at night.
Birds: Bird-lovers will enjoy this avian oasis, and will have the chance to see Indian peafowl, Gentoo penguins, King eiders, Scaly-sided merganser, and even a Bali Mynah—a rare and beautiful white bird with black tipped feathers and sky-blue eyes, that comes all the way from the Indonesian islands.
Reptiles and amphibians: Emerald tree boas are one of many slithery reptiles that call Central Park Zoo home. These powerful predators come all the way from South American rainforests, and can be up to seven feet long! If you look carefully, you will also see poisonous tree frogs. You’ll recognize them instantly by their neon-bright colors and tiny size…but don’t be fooled. They’re full of poison!
Central Park Zoo offers a full schedule of animal presentations, shows and feedings. Visitors can watch daily sea lion feedings, and will enjoy watching these playful creatures show off their flips, while catching fish in mid-air! The pool’s glass walls let visitors check out the sea lions from underneath for an interesting perspective.
In the summer months, the Zoo’s Central Garden gives you a cool break from the noise of the animals. Don’t miss the heirloom rosebushes!
