Never ever again
By Moghedien from New York on

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

Purchased the tickets over the smartdestinations.com. We went to the location and the bus guys weren't able to scan the pass on the mobile device. Had to go to the office and waited in a line for an hour. Really anointing!!! The whole idea of buying tickets upfront is to avoid lines. Horrible service.

Smart Destinations Response: For certain attractions such as buses and boats, you need to get a physical ticket to enter. There are redemption instructions for each attraction so it is important to read all of the information before going. We thank you for your feedback and hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in New York.

Not in winter!

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

Sightseeing tours are a great way to explore a city, particularly when they are hop-on-hop-off. We were thrilled to get seats on one of their double-decker busses right before the Holidays and were looking forward to enjoying the freezing city from the comfort of a warm bus. Unfortunately, the double-decker busses turned out to be largely exposed on the top deck, only protected by plexi-glass. The top is not heated (!) and there is no access to downstairs seating. Moreover, it was snowing and we hat zero view of anything since the plexi-glass was covered in snow! On our downtown tour we had three different tour guides, whose level of knowledge varied greatly, so, if you don't get any info from the first one, just hop off and try the next one ... just not in winter. For us, it was a complete waste of money, and I can only hope that a summer experience would have been a lot more enjoyable.

So so do to tour guide
By Titi Verified Reviewer from Ontario Canada on

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

check your tour guide, we had an older gentleman whom did not mention the stops for Chinatown or little Italy when a few of us asked we got off at battery park quite a walk away. Not happy especially when it was mentioned in description of tour! He said he was a former teacher.

Relax & Tour NYC
By Katie Verified Reviewer from Boston, MA on
Pros:
Relaxing, Hop On Hop Off Feature, You See A Lot, Informative Guides
Cons:
Open Air Bus Weather, traffic,
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

My family went on this tour just as it started to rain lightly. CitySights provided us with ponchos which were very effective in keeping us dry during the tour. The seats were comfortable and it was great to relax after hours of walking around. This tour is great if you have people in your group who want to see a lot but cannot necessarily run around NYC all day, especially older family members and children. Our tour guide was very informative. In fact sometimes he was too informative; I would have liked more breaks from the commentary. These tours run regularly (every 15-20 mins in July when we visited). They are a great way to see and get around the city if you are visiting multiple attractions. At $49 per person this is a great value on the NY Explorer Pass.

Gotta make this your FIRST attraction

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

This is a must to do for your first attraction. The tour showed us a lot of places we didn't know existed from the tourist info. Found all the unique and flavourful areas to go back to for shopping and eating. The only criticism is that we could have bought a bus ticket from one of the many street vendors in minutes. Too bad the Explorer pass only had one location (Madame Tussaud's) to get a ticket. Line ups were long and it was very crowded. Took an hour in line to get our ticket. It would be great if there were numerous locations to use the pass to get a ticket. I'm sure many of those Souvenier shops or other businesses would welcome having the additional traffic come into their locations and we wouldn't have to wait in line so long. It was still the BEST attraction we experienced.

Buzzing around NYC on a double decker with a witty guide was the ideal way to start off our holiday. Got a snappy tour through all the sights, decided which ones we wanted to go back to and covered a lot of ground in just 2 1/2 hrs.

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

This tour was a really good start to our week in NYC. Got a good sense of where everything was and we hopped off at the Seaport. We were lucky to be in the front of the line that formed after we got there - not everyone was happy about waiting. We were lucky to have one of the only nice days in May so the ride up top was very pleasant. The staff varied by bus - but most of them were pretty informative, though a few looked like they would rather be somewhere else.

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

My friends and I thought this was a good way to get an overview of the city. We only had 3 days in the city so we liked that we got to see the city and then decide were we wanted to go back to. We did have to wait at the different stops longer than we would have liked. Otherwise it was definitely worth it!

All day liberty
By beach bunny Verified Reviewer from Reading. PA on
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations Downtown Manhattan Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour:

We are not from New york nor do we have much knowledge about geting around in New york so we depended on the information from this company. Tried to call over phone but on hold too long. E-mailed for info. They did give me some info but when I inquired for important info they never answered me back espesially when I complained about the pass after we got it. We got the 3 attraction pass. BIG MISTAKE. We were only there for the day and the guy knew this at the counter when we got there. We imm got our ticket for the statue of liberty and went out and waited for the bus. If the guy would have told us it would be an ALL day event we would not have purchased the pass. We waited in a LONG line even though they say you omit the lines with their pass. EVERYONE has those and the pass does not get you into the statue of liberty that is separate so we waited all day to be dissappointed when we could not go in. It was 4:30 till we got back and those tour buses only run till 6 so we did not know if we would get back in time to go home, not knowing how long we would wait in line at the empire state bldg.. So we lost money on the pass.

Smart Destinations Response: The Citysights sales location is generally quite knowledgeable and helpful. In this case they may simply not have known that the security line for Statute of Liberty was so long that day (and unfortunately no one gets to skip it).
