Along with great views of the New York City Skyline and the harbor from the water, the tour affords views of the following sights:

  • Empire State Building
  • Statue of Liberty
  • Ellis Island
  • Governors Island
  • Brooklyn Bridge
  • United Nations

The cruise takes you down the West Side of Manhattan, around the southern tip passing the site of the World Trade Center and the Financial District, and then up the East Side passing under the Brooklyn Bridge and proceeding as far as the UN Building before returning to the dock. This unique waterborne tour is a great choice with your New York City Explorer Pass and a great way to not just see the sights, but learn about what you are seeing along the way.

The City Sightseeing Cruises Historical Cruise departs from Midtown’s Pier 78, offering passengers a ride to the pier with their shuttle service. Don’t worry; the ride is on them as a “thank you” for using their service. Buses depart from Times Square and across from the Empire State Building. For real time bus pickup information and alternate pickup points, dial 1-877-53-BUSES.

Ferries historically were like taxis in New York City. With the construction of the city’s many bridges and tunnels, water transportation largely diminished as a public service. It’s unfortunate, because traffic in the city is notoriously bad and water transport is certainly a scenic and relaxing way to travel! In 1986, City Sightseeing Cruises was founded as a ferry and excursion fleet in an attempt to rejuvenate the harbor. Since then has carried over 65 million passengers. The company prides itself on being a small family business and reviews show that passengers find their crews to be extremely welcoming and friendly.

A City Sightseeing Cruises Historical Cruise is an increasingly popular alternative tour of New York City. Touring the city by boat provides many advantages, one of the more appealing being that you can see many landmarks in a relatively short period of time without having to trek through subways and walk great distances. The other is the romance afforded passengers as they view the city’s skyline from a distance and take in the splendor that is New York. Welcome aboard!
