Imagine feasting your eyes upon the most iconic landmarks in New York City. Now, imagine experiencing them from one of the largest sailing vessels in the world. Whether by sunshine or moonlight, this tour is a truly swoon-worthy event!

Tall ships are such a blast from the past. They are amazing to behold, but imagine sailing on one! Let your imagination run wild when you visit New York City, and experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go for a cruise aboard one of the world’s largest sail boats still in operation.

Sailing at 158 feet long, with 120-foot masts, and measuring in at over 8,000 square feet of sail, this 200 ton vessel is a new addition to Manhattan’s skyline, while still reminding of days gone by when America was rising to become the leader in global commerce. Clipper City has capacity for up to 144 passengers, and is known as “New York’s largest and most elegant sailing vessel”. While it is replicated in the style of lumber-hauling schooners from the 19th century, this vessel is built for comfort, featuring spacious decks and comfortable seating, as well as unbeatable vantage points from which you can snap photos of the Manhattan skyline! Being on the water, you will have a unique perspective of New York’s landmarks, and can really take get a sense of the Big Apple’s ‘big picture’. This cruise is awesome not only for its air of nautical adventure, but also for its historic quality!

The original Clipper City was built as a cargo ship in 1854, just before the start of the Civil War, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Its name is derived from its home of origin, a town that gained a reputation as being a hub of American shipbuilding. The plans for the original Clipper City are on record at the Smithsonian, and its cross-sections are housed at Wisconsin Maritime Museum. This steel-hulled replica is very close to the real thing, and offers a safe and enjoyable ride that will take you back in nautical time.

Experience the essential landmarks of NYC – the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge and the iconic skyline of lower Manhattan aboard a magnificent sailboat. Nothing will prepare you for the amazing sensation of being on one of the largest sailing boats still in commercial operation today. A full service bar is available on board. Manhattan By Sail: Clipper City departs daily from Pier 17 at South Street Seaport.

Comments about Smart Destinations Clipper City Tall Ship Sails:

It was our first time in NYC. We started our visit with the clipper tour. It was really really very nice, very quiet. Not too many people on board, so you can go everywhere on the clipper. 1 hour and 40 minutes, good timing to see everything interesting,...because we need time for inside the city ! On the clipper, we felt like the time had stopped for us. Lots of boat were overloaded around the liberty statue. I could not imagine to take one of those... The choice is really not difficult. And last thing, of course we took a lot of pictures and with the sails, there were a lot of artistic photos to take ! We really had a great time !
