One of the largest and most well-known museums in the world, the American Museum of Natural History attracts approximately 5 million visitors each year! Marvel at African mammals, fossils, marine life, and more at this famous New York City attraction.

If you’ve seen A Night at the Museum, you already understand the appeal of this world-class and world-famous attraction. If you haven’t, believe us, it’s an amazing place! Bring the whole family, because visitors of all ages will find something to intrigue them, whether it’s the Alaskan Brown Bear diorama, the 563 carat Star of India sapphire, or a skullcap of Pachycephalasasurus – a plant-eating dinosaur that lived 65 million years ago!

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the largest museums in the world. Founded in 1860, this museum is most famous for its collection of dinosaur fossils and Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, which features a 94-foot whale model.

Other permanent exhibits include the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth (featuring a world-class geological exhibit),the Arthur Ross Hall of Meteorites, a collection of rare and iridescent opals, and the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins- an incredible walk through the evidence that supports theories about the evolution of mankind.

When you’ve completed your totally educational and interactive learning experience (be sure to plan a good chunk of time to explore the many exhibits), stop by one of the museum’s theme shops, including the American Museum of Natural History’s flagship store, “The Museum Shop”. If you work up an appetite, a variety of dining options are available to suit all budgets, ranging from the Museum Food Court (great for families) to Café on One, which serves gourmet adult fare.

Your Pass entitles you to entry to the main museum’s permanent collections: Biodiverstity & Envrionmental Halls, Birds & Reptiles and Amphibians Halls, The Earth and Planetary Sciences Halls, Fossil Halls, Human Origins and Cultural Halls, Mammal Halls & the Rose Center for Earth and Space.

Great museum but DO NOT USE YOUR PASS!

Comments about Smart Destinations American Museum of Natural History:

The museum itself is brilliant however if you want to see the Hayden planetarium, the 3D shark show etc. DO NOT USE YOUR PASS!!! The pass only grants you admission to the general museum (worth $22) To see the additional exhibits you have to pay up to $27 extra PER EXHIBIT! You are better off getting a super saver ticket ($35) and saving the explorer pass for something else. Also, arrive early as it takes a good six hours to see the whole museum.

Very large and showing age

Comments about Smart Destinations American Museum of Natural History:

Very expansive w/great variety but was put off by constant section closures for private affairs. Some desirable exhibits require an additional ticket and expense. Also, showing signs of age, wear and tear, etc. Overall however, a great deal to take in at one location.

Full day of adventures for a nine year old boy. It was so much it was overwhelming. A good idea may be breaking up the day by leaving to go to Central Park and then returning to visit the rest of the musuem.

Worth it but read my important info

Comments about Smart Destinations American Museum of Natural History:

The museum is enormous and fabulous; go prepared for long day on feet. If you have NY Explorer Pass & expect express entry you will be disillusioned. Important:Museum has different levels of entry & NY pass is for general admission only so check which level you want before using your Pass because e.g. general admission doesn't get you into some exhibits e.g. Hayden Planetarium Show. If you want more than general admission I advise you to simply pay for the ticket & not use your NY pass on this museum as it is economically better to do it that way.

We had such a blast at the American Museum of Natural History. Can't believe we hadn't visited it up until now. We spent about 6 hours there and could have easily come back another day. We loved to Rose Center for Earth and Space! Cant wait to go back.
