NBC Studio Tour closing as of 1/1/2014 Due to a series of extensive upgrades and renovations at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, that will impact our ability to provide a quality experience, the NBC Studio Tour will suspend operations starting on January 1st, 2014 through late 2014.
Hollywood may be where the big-screen magic happens, but New York City is a national hub of live television programming, and NBC has opened its doors to give you access! Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and The Today Show…these are just a few of the nationally acclaimed television programs filmed inside the studios of NBC’s New York operations at Rockefeller Plaza. On your trip to New York, stop in for a tour and see for yourself the studio where America was brought to its knees watching Steve Martin perform his “wild and crazy guys” skit, and where every Saturday night the words “Live from New York….” are broadcast across the nation.
The NBC Studio Tour, which has been operating since 1933, gives visitors the opportunity to “crash the set” and walk through the very same halls that have been frequented by such national celebrities as Norm MacDonald and Al Roker.
After congregating in the NBC Experience Store at the GE Building in Rockefeller Plaza, an NBC page will lead you on a 70-minute walking tour that begins in the NBC Sharp HDTV Theater, where you will learn about the early radio history of NBC. You will also pay a visit to the Broadcast Operations Center, and then have the chance to walk through various legendary studios of NBC’s New York operations. Make a mental note of your guide’s name, because many of these same pages have worked their way through the ranks to later become NBC superstars, to include Regis Philbin, Willard Scott, Ted Koppel, and Marcy Carsey! Later, Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer will guide you (via video) through an in-depth history of NBC, giving inside information about the studio’s past life and present state.
Keep your eyes peeled as you walk…many people report seeing celebrities in unexpected places along their tour! Among the other high points of the NBC Studio Tour is that several visitors will have the opportunity to read a mock weather report or newscast on a real NBC set. You will also get to check out the makeup room where stars spend hours preparing to go on set, and where those ludicrous SNL costume-changes take place!
The NBC Studio Tour departs every 15 minutes, and is a great stop for anyone who is a fan of Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, or any of the other programs filmed here. It’s also a fantastic way to learn about “the Peacock Network”, America’s first major broadcast network!

Comments about Smart Destinations NBC Studio Tour:
Fun to get a chance to go behind the scenes at NBC Studios. You definitely have to be someone who watches NBC to appreciate the tour, but if you are, then it's a lot of fun. Our guide was really good. I think the part we enjoyed the most was pretending to give the weather report.
