The odd, weird, and downright bizarre are captured in all their glory at Ripley's Times Square. Yes, you'll even see "Sideshow Wonders" perform feats bordering on the inhuman. But, believe it or not, this is a highly entertaining way to spend the day!

Experience New York City’s most unbelievable attraction, where fact is stranger than fiction! Located in the heart of Times Square, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! “Odditorium” gives visitors the chance to explore over 17,000 square feet of the unbelievable. There are more than twenty galleries of outrageous interactive, video and archival exhibits. Your self-guided adventure is sure to amaze as you come face-to-face with remarkable relics and rare treasures from around the world, as well as the ultimate glimpse of New York’s odd and unique past.

Ripley’s Sideshow Wonders feature live performances that you have to see to believe! Twelve sideshow stars call the Odditorium home, from “The Incredible Lizardman” with his 30 different acts (think sword-swallowing, and fire & bug eating), to the crew’s newest addition-Tyler Fyre & Thrill Kill Jill, daredevils who perform a fast-paced series of incredible stunts. Other freakish acts include “Nelson Lugo, the Pain-Proof Man”, and “Albert Cadabra, the Human Blockhead”.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! holds an incredibly bizarre array of exhibits. There is undoubtedly something there to dazzle, and perhaps terrify, every member of the family! From a vast array of authentic shrunken heads to a authentic collection of Olympic flames, each exhibit is weirder than the next. Other interesting artifacts on display include a section of the Berlin Wall, a six-legged cow, an albino giraffe, and a lock of Elvis’s hair!

Don’t miss Ripley’s OddShop, which provides the perfect finale to your visit. There you can pick up some freakish items to remind you of your weird New York encounter with the grotesque, from crazy candy and jewelry to more mainstream t-shirts. Ripley’s New York is handicapped accessible and offers loaner wheelchairs for those who may need them. Photography is permitted, and even encouraged in the building, so don’t hold back from snapping shots of the odd things you may encounter! Naturally, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! New York is family friendly, so DO bring your kids. And don’t be ashamed to admit it if you end up enjoying the experience more than they do!

Does this whole place sound a little bizarre? It’s supposed to! Ripley’s New York Odditorium is a great example of the Grotesque. An inherently American idea, the Grotesque was an artistic and literary movement that focused on the distorted, weird, and supernatural elements of life that people find at once both fascinating and disgusting or bizarre. Capitalizing on this fascination, cartoonist and entrepreneur Robert Ripley used his collections of bizarre paraphernalia to entertain and amuse, and the idea has remained popular since the opening of the first Ripley’s in Chicago in 1933.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! New York City may not be New York’s most famous attraction, but once visited, it is never forgotten. Don’t pass it up on your trip to the Big Apple!

Fun Way to Pass an Hour or Two

Comments about Smart Destinations Ripleys Believe it or Not! Odditorium:

Maybe you have to be a bit odd to enjoy this kind of thing. If that's the case, call me strange; I don't care because I find it FUN! Truth be told, you really aren't going to find anything that is hard to "believe". Much of it is shown on the history channel and places like that. I could have done with less of the shrinking heads, but the black hole tunnel was a big hit with everyone in our group. Definitely an interesting way to pass a couple of hours. I wouldn't call it the highlight of our trip, but it was entertaining.
