Top of the Rock is named for its location spanning the top few floors of Rockefeller Plaza’s GE Building, an Art Deco style skyscraper built during the Great Depression by the infamous John D. Rockefeller as a gift to his beloved Manhattan.

Rockefeller Plaza is known for its massive and ornately-decorated Christmas tree and ice-skating rink; both at the base of the GE building, and both staples on the winter tourism checklist. Renovated in 2005, Top of the Rock affords visitors completely unobstructed views of New York City in all its glory. Ride a beautiful glass elevator 70 stories into the air, while watching educational videos provided by NBC, one of many well-known companies housed at Rockefeller Plaza.

This is a great attraction in NYC. I haven't been to the Empire State Building so I can't compare the two, but I can say that it's cool to be so high and up and SEE the Empire State Building (which is probably prettier from the outside than the inside.. my guess) I loved the exhibit, there's a spot where the floor is done so you feel like you are one of the original construction workers sitting on a beam up high (it's an illusion) it's very cool. I highly recommend
