Comments about Smart Destinations Top of the Rock:

If you are time-limited visit the empire state building instead. The view is better and the price is the same. (Although i find both overpriced compared to similar high rises in other cities). At the Top of the Rock you can not just walk in an go up (as in the empire state building), but you need to make an appointment instead. When you show up on time for the appointment, you still have to wait and stand in line for 45 minutes? While waiting you can witness how some staff members treat visitors as if they are handling a group of army recruits...

Extraordinary sight!

Comments about Smart Destinations Top of the Rock:

Top of the Rock is not as popular as for instance the Empire State Building, but it is better! You have more space, fewer people and because of the glass wall, a much better view than of the observation deck of the Empire State. And the view itself is really worth you wait, it is extraordinarily beautiful!

Nighttime visit
By PJ from Ohio on

Comments about Smart Destinations Top of the Rock:

We visited on a Friday evening. As expected, the first available ticket was 90 minutes later. There were lots of people but the lines moved quickly. At night it was hard to tell what buildings/places you were looking at. It would have been helpful if there was some kind of guide.

Smart Destinations Response: Hi Pj, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about this experience, which will also help future customers plan their trip to the Top of the Rock.

great view at the Empire!
By Nathan from Belgium on
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations Top of the Rock:

Great of course seeing the empire which is of course not possible being on the empire itself. and this isn't actually so much lower. But we didn't see the point of having some spots with glass on the lowest levels. At first like almost everybody else we didn't knew that there was a glass-free spot at the top so we took a lot of unnessacary pictures and wasted some time there.

Must-See NYC Attraction
By Katie Verified Reviewer from Boston, MA on
Pros:
Good Indoors Or Outdoors, Spectacular Views Of City, Fun Elevator Ride
Cons:
Wait Time For Elevators, Ticketing Process,
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations Top of the Rock:

Having visited the Empire State Building years earlier, my family's visit to the Top of the Rock was a great experience and a new "must see" in NYC. The views from the top were spectacular, including good views of Central Park, the Empire State Building, the new Freedom Tower, and even the Statue of Liberty in the distance. The top deck has 3 different levels (including indoor and outdoor options). The outside areas had tall glass panes about 15 feet tall so it felt safer (especially for children) and the wind does not hit you. There were several observation meters to get better views. The only downside is that this is a popular attraction with limited number of elevators to take visitors up or down (I counted 2), so expect to wait for the elevators going up and going down. The ride inside the elevators is fun (they have a cool glass ceiling with lights inside the elevator shaft so you can see how fast and far up you are going).
