Hawaiian Style Bike and Moped Rentals

Feel the breeze in your hair as you explore Oahu on a moped or bicycle. Your Oahu pass is good for a 4-hour premium moped rental or a 24-hour bike rental from Hawaiin Style Rentals in Waikiki.

You can set your own itinerary and head to Honolulu hotspots like Pearl Harbor, the Bishop Museum, or breathtaking Diamond Head volcano. Or get farther away from town with a trip to Hanauma Bay or Lanakai beach in Kailua.

Mopeds combine the strength and mobility you need to reach the farther points of the island, but with the maneuverability that makes city driving—not to mention city parking—a breeze. Go Oahu Card customer DP writes, "It was a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but the guys there are very patient and make sure you know what you're doing before you take off." Yelp user Hatori H. had a similar experience: "Having never ridden a motorized bike of any kind, I was somewhat intimidated but after going around the block I felt like I had been riding for years. It was super easy and got the hang of it within a quarter mile upon leaving." However Go Oahu Card customer abo0925 had a tougher time and cautions, "If you are not used to riding a motorcycle, I highly recommend you don't try to drive a scooter."

So if you plan to use your Oahu pass on the 4-hour scooter rental, make sure you feel comfortable riding it before taking it out into traffic. It's true that no experience is necessary, and most user reviews mention that it was easy once you get used to the ride, but there's no fun in being nervous or uncomfortable. If that's the case, you might enjoy the 24-hour bicycle rental more.

Just like at car rental companies, you are not required to purchase the optional insurance or pre-pay for gas on moped rentals, although those options are available at Hawaiian Styles Rentals. Personal car insurance typically does not cover you on a moped, so check with your insurance company first if you want to be sure.

Your rental includes a map of Oahu with suggested routes, locks (Use them! You don’t want to be responsible for a stolen bike or moped!), and helmets (optional in Hawaii, but always a smart idea). TripAdvisor gives Hawaiian Style Bike and Moped Rentals a 5 out of 5 rating, and they have a 4.5 of 5 rating on Yelp.

Comments about Smart Destinations Hawaiian Style Rentals: Moped and Bike Rentals:

The employees are very informative and will make you feel at ease. I have never been on a moped and I am 42. I had no problems. Tip, do not twist the gas and push the brake at the same time. If you have a blackberry phone it helps to navigate with the GPS. We rode the Mopeds to the bay and snorkled. What fun!

Not recommended for beginners!!!

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

If you are not used to riding a motorcycle, I highly recommend you don't try to drive a scooter. I thought it would be no problem, because it even says "no experience required" in the description. I did the around the block test drive and thought I had it; then, I ended up crashing luckily into a curb with grass in the middle. Luckily, I opted to wear a helmet even though state law doesn't require you use one. So, please don't do this unless you feel confident in these type of skills/city area conditions. The police officer said they see all kinds of wrecks with these things. He even said one a few weeks back involved a scooter hitting a car!

Go For A Ride!!

Best Uses:

Early in trip,

We had a blast on the scooters. We had a great ride to Sandy Beach and back to Waikiki. For the most part, the cars on the road are very respectful of riders, so it isn't scary to get out there among them. The scooters will now be part of every Hawaii trip.The Hawaiian Style Rentals is sort of tucked away on a side street, but is easy to get to. It is between the Marriott Waikiki and the Aston (Resort Quest). All of the staff members were friendly and attentive. We were given a run down of the how-to's and then sent around the block to make sure we were able to ride them. . . and then we were gone! The 4 hour rental price was [$] which we found to be so reasonable. We were able to cruise around at our own pace and not feel rushed. They gave us a great map that showed different route options.The only thing we would have changed about renting these scooters would be to get them earlier on in the trip. We got them on our last day, and would have loved to have them during the entire trip.To sum up our great experience: Great Staff !Great Equipment!Great Price!Great Ride!We will be renting from them again!

This is a MUST!

I had a ball on the mopeds. It was a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but the guys there are very patient and make sure you know what you're doing before you take off. Try to pick a day that's not very windy. When we went the wind was so strong I felt like I was going to tip over while driving, especially while going fast. I ended up getting too scared to go on a major road because I felt like I was going to cause an accident. Also you have to pay extra for insurance (I believe it was between $20-50 per person), but we didn't get it and didn't have a problem. Also don't prepay for gas, we drove them around for about 2 hours and the tank was still on F.

Lessons included, What a view, TONS OF FUN, Great adventure

Navigating the traffic, Gas is extra, Insurance is extra,

What a family BLAST,

My family of 5 rented the mopeds with out Go cards. We received cute mopeds and comprehensive lessons to learn to ride our mopeds. It took a little practice, but we all finally got it! My 3 teenagers are all fairly new drivers but had no problem with this. We drove around Waikiki Beach and up to Diamondhead. The views were fantastic!! We felt so free with the wind in our hair and faces. This was by far the most fun and adventurous activity we did with our Go cards.

Rental with the card is only for 4-hours

I purchased the go oahu card and was excited that it included a moped rental,which the site valued at $40. I assumed that it was a 24-hour rental since on the hawaiian style rentals website, the 24-hour rate is $39. But upon closer look, with the card, the rental is only good for 4 hrs which is technically only valued at $29. It's pretty disappointing.Overall, I think the card still saves the traveler money, by maximizing the activities included, but just disappointed that the moped is not valued correctly.

Smart Destinations Response: We are so sorry your experience was not what it should have been. Part of the problem was that the rental in question is a "premium" class. This is listed at $39 on their site for 4 hours -- but you have to scroll down past the listing for their "standard" class which is indeed 24 hours for $39.
