Driving Directions

Leave Waikiki by taking Kapahulu Avenue up to H1 West. After 3 miles take Pali exit (Highway 61). Pali Highway will take you all the way over the mountain into Kailua Town. Keep going straight until you see a Fire Station to your right. Turn right on Kainalu Drive. Go to the end. Turn left onto Kailua Road. You will see Kailua Beach Center 1/4 mile down the road. You will find ample parking in our small shopping center. Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks is located in walking distance to Kailua Beach Park, 1 block down the road.

Public Transportation

The Bus: From Ala Moana, take the 56 or 56 City Bus to Kailua. Transfer to the 70 and get off at the Kailua Beach Center (app. 1.5 Hr).

Kailua, which means “two seas” is a beach town of fewer than 40,000 residents, and is so named for the two lagoons in the district that run through Kailua Bay. This small, idyllic, and mainly residential town is home to some of the world's best beaches, including Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach, and is consistently voted one of the best places in the United States for kayaking, kite boarding, bodysurfing, snorkeling, and many other water sports. It also boasts a quaint downtown and miles of great bike paths. It is speculated that Kailua was home to Hawaiian families as long as 1,500 years ago, and in more recent times was the home of Oahu’s royalty.

Located 12 miles outside of Waikiki, Kailua offers bikers rolling hills and miles of beautiful bike paths that wind along the beaches as well as through the town with its shopping districts and green parks. Three miles of bike path meander through a marsh area, offering great bird watching and wetland views. Your Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks bike rental is good for a half day, which affords you plenty of time to explore the town, or stop at the beach for a swim or a picnic. Interestingly enough, President Obama has twice rented a home in Kailua since being elected, and the area has also been a refuge for many of Hawaii’s stars, such as the cast of Lost!

Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks, Inc. offers both adult and children’s bicycles (minimum height of 4’10” required for rental). Bikes can be delivered to your bed and breakfast or vacation rental, free of charge! You will also be given a helmet and bike lock with your rental.
