The San Diego Children's Museum, located in the heart of downtown San Diego, provides a dynamic, playful public space and community center for children and families. The museum features innovative, provocative artwork that kids can touch, climb, or move; hands-on creative opportunities, and a variety of arts-based classes and workshops.
The San Diego Children's Museum studio spaces allow kids to roll up their sleeves and create their own artwork with recycled and sustainable materials. Paint, clay, paper, wood, found objects and more are the building blocks of each project. The artmaking studios are even facilitated by trained artists! Exhibits have included Beastly by Nature, Fruit Flys, Great Pacific Garbage Catch, Midden Monsters, and Words on the Run.
The San Diego Children's Museum celebrated the opening of its new home, an environmentally sustainable building designed by architect Rob Wellington Quigley, in May of 2008. Rounded out with an organic cafe, unique retail shop, abundant seating, and an outdoor park, the San Diego Children's Museum provides a comfortable and engaging environment for the entire family to enjoy together.
After spending the day in creative mode, families and kids can simply go across the street to a beautiful park with tons of space for running climbing, and having picnics! Designed by Spurlock Poirier Landscape Architects, the park features climbing structures, swings, hard and soft surface playrooms and sand play.

Comments about Smart Destinations New Children's Museum:
I was walking around the area with two kids who were just hot and miserable - then we found the museum on the Discovery Map that they give out in the seaport area. The rest of the day my kids were in heaven. We made projects, Painted an old car and learned about Plarn and Midden Monsters. I would recommend this BEAUTIFUL museum to any mom out there. My son is 5 and daughter 2. I LOVE this place1
