From I-5 or 805 (Mexico), proceed to State Route 163, then to I-15 North. Exit at the Via Rancho Parkway and follow signs east.

Board one of the park’s trams, and hit the trails to get up-close and personal with African wildlife in a way that would only be possible in Africa! Your guide will spend time pointing out the various animals and habitats you’re seeing, and will let you know how it stacks up to what you might see in the wild. The experience will give you an authentic taste of a real African safari as you cruise the park’s large exhibits and gaze upon herds of curious giraffes, Cape buffalo, ostriches, African cranes, giant rhinos, gazelles, and horned antelope as they strut across their grasslands habitats.

Africa Tram Safari at San Diego Zoo does a great job of condensing the cultures and landscapes of Africa into a micro-experience that will give you a taste of the real thing. You’ll get an up-close look at exactly how large these animals really are and observe some of their more unique behaviors as seen in the wild. Visit the otherwise inaccessible areas of the park from the comfort of your breezy, open-air tram and watch as herds of antelopes prance alongside the vehicle, just as curious about you as you are about them.

Upon returning to “basecamp”, finish off your day meandering through the rest of the zoo’s stunning habitats and paying a visit to the other mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds that call the world-famous San Diego Zoo Safari Park home! You won’t be disappointed with the experience, and will go home with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of the African Savanna.

enjoy the mini safari kids love it only disgusting part are the filthy restrooms. You should have personnels to clean it all the time . people are coming from all over the country. Disease can spread easy and you make it worse by having dirty disgusting restrooms.Needs to be inspected by the health authorities.

Comments about Smart Destinations San Diego Zoo Safari Park:

Haven't been to Wild Animal Park in years. My faux Safari experience was a blast! Rhinos, Elephants, Cheetahs and more up close and personal. Loved the fact that most animals were not caged like in a typical zoo. The attempt in creating natural habitat environment was great! Entrance fee was not bad. Food choices and pricing are ok. The only negative: restrooms were disgustingly dirty. I was embarrased.
