San Diego Zoo tickets

Gate Prices Adult $50.00
Child (3-12) $40.00

From cuddly critters to creepy crawlies, the world-famous San Diego Zoo has them all. Located just north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the Zoo offers 100 acres of exhibits and habitat for visitors to explore, more than 3,700 animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants. Our ticket includes use of the Guided Bus Tour, the Kangaroo Express Bus, the Children’s Zoo, the Skyfari aerial tram, and all general admission exhibits and shows.

Whether furry or feathery, massive or miniature, sleek or slithery, camouflaged or colorful, when it comes to animals, the San Diego Zoo has just about everyone’s favorites. The Zoo’s amazing collection includes giant pandas, elephants, South African penguins, Galápagos tortoises, anacondas, Tasmanian devils, koalas, giraffes, gorillas, crocodiles, and polar bears—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

You’ll find much to see and do here, and there are acres of rolling, scenic exhibit areas to explore. The San Diego Zoo is not only one of the world’s largest zoos, but it was recently voted “#1 Zoo in the World” by TripAdvisor.

Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2016, the San Diego Zoo has a long history as a leader in animal care and conservation. The San Diego Zoo pioneered cageless exhibits way back in the 1920s, providing a more naturalistic way to see animals—and the Zoo’s advances in animal care, veterinary medicine, work with endangered species, and efforts to end extinction worldwide are legendary.

Throughout 2016, guests can participate in many special events, activities and attractions celebrating the San Diego Zoo’s centennial—including a brand-new multimedia animal show at Wegeforth Bowl, a new children’s show with costume characters, special displays on Centennial Plaza, and a new film experience at the Bus Tour queue. Summer Nighttime Zoo activities will include live music, a centennial-themed show from the Zoo’s zany Dr. Zoolittle, and a fun musical procession highlighting some of the most beloved animals in the Zoo’s history.

A trip to San Diego would not be complete without a visit to this world-famous zoo, so get ready for a walk on the wild side! You’ll see the beauty of the Animal Kingdom in the San Diego Zoo’s many naturalistic habitats, and you’ll meet friendly staff who are dedicated to the animals’ care and well-being. Don’t miss this San Diego classic!

Be sure to catch some of the shows. Both of the ones we saw were well worth the time. The bus tour (included) was very entertaining and a good overview of the zoo. Don't miss the pandas, orangutans, and cheetah with the dog.

Comments about Smart Destinations San Diego Zoo:

I have been a member of the San Diego Zoo since I moved here in 2002. No other zoo I have been to can even compare to this zoo. There are a lot of animals to see and it is always clean. In the 29 years I lived in MD, I never once considered a membership at their very small zoo. I can't live without a membership here in San Diego! Bonus = We also get to go to the Wild Animal Park with our membership...it's included. I highly recommend everyone to come visit our zoo. You won't be disappointed! Make sure you wear some good walking shoes....There will be a lot of walking involved.

We bought the passes on line and were directed not to print but printing was required at a couple venues. It was a great value. It also offered site-seeing options we hadn't previously considered - that was fantastic.

We had a really great time at the zoo. I would recommend the zoo to anyone that goes to San Diego and the Go Card too. We didn't have to worry about paying to get into each park or museum we wanted to visit.

I would do it again!
By Jonnie from Albany, GA on
Pros:
clean, Huge, Modern
Cons:
Hilly terrain, Lots of walking,
Best Uses:
Polar bears, Exotic animals, Family adventure

Comments about Smart Destinations San Diego Zoo:

It has been a life-long dream to experience the San Diego Zoo. The terrain is very hilly and there is a lot of walking involved in seeing the zoo. The bus tour and overhead sky-tram offers some relief to tired legs. It takes no less than 2 days to see the park--don't try to do it in any less time or you will sell yorself short.
