Frequently Asked Questions

What are "consecutive calendar days"?

The first time you visit an attraction, it will “activate” the calendar day countdown on your pass.

For example, a 3-day pass activated on a Monday will be valid on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It doesn’t matter what time you activate the pass on the first day, so we suggest you start your day early.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

Here's how a family of 3 (w/10yr old child) spent 2 days in SF. One day we used the City Go Card, the other day was our "free day". Drove up from Pasadena and checked into our Fisherman's Wharf area hotel on a Thursday evening, on a clear August weekend. Purchased our Go Cards (for Friday) from [@] and spent the evening on the Embarcadero and walking the city. Friday we began the Go Card activiities. Enjoyed the hotel buffet breakfast (7:30 - 8:30). Mom likes to sleep and relax in the morn so I took my daughter to the Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty Ship (9-10am). We then all drove to the Exploratorium (free parking), 10:30 - 12:30, a MUST DO if you have children. Drove back to our hotel, dropped off the car, grabbed a quick lunch and walked over to Pier 39 for a SkyView Double Decker 2 hour city tour (1-3pm). The Golden Gate is amazing but beware, cold cold cold in some places. Next was the bay boat cruise, which again was cold. Around 5:30pm we walked over to the Wax Museum. About 7pm, we entered the Aquarium, with the must see underwater aquarium. This was the last activitiy using the Go Card. Afterwards we ate dinner on the pier. The next day (Saturday) was our "free day" we spent walking the Golden Gate park and beaches. But if you're interested in the math, the amount we WOULD HAVE spent without the cards totalled about $307. The Go Cards were [$]. Would I recommend the Go Cards? We'll, if you or your travelling companions are not used to being on a schedule, and are lookie loos, taking their sweet time everywhere, no I wouldn't. Times for tours are strict and yes, you can take the next one, but that limits your activities for the rest of the day. The card is supposed to be valid from 9-7pm, BUT reading the fine print, most places accept the cards only from 10 - 5:30pm. Why didn't we choose the City Pass, which features Cable Cars and Muni Transport? Well, the avg. wait time for a Cable Car is about 1 1/2hrs!! Would loved to have done a ride but we were time limited. Plus most of the activities are within walking distance from each other. The 5 other CP activities are included on the Go Card anyways, which is surprisingly much cheaper. We had a great time and would be happy to answer any questions. Can't wait to go back and cross the GGate Bridge, and visit Alcatraz!

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

GO SAN FRANCISCO CARD You can save a lot if you can squeeze many activities in a day. I'd recommend one to get a one day go card while one still has the energy to do a lot. Otherwise, it could really be tiresome. The pressure of getting your money's worth could get on one's nerve. I'd recommend this itinerary for one day of sightseeing: *skyview tour *bridge to bridge cruise *ride on the historic cable car *drive GoCar on the crookedest street *if time permits,do any: S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien U.S.S. Hornet Aquarium of the Bay Wax Museum One piece of advice: start early at 10 AM with the skyview tour so you can catch the 12:30 bridge to bridge cruise (schedule good as of May 2012). The Golden Gate bridge becomes so foggy in the afternoon that one might not get a good view on late afternoons. Also, since redemption of tickets is only until 5:30, I'd suggest one to get the tickets for the wax museum and aquarium of the bay before then and just come back later. Anyway, the wax museum is open until 9 PM and the aquarium until 8 PM.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

We went to more places and did more activities than we would have without it! Sea World, Midway, Harbor Cruise, San Diego Zoo, Kayaking in the ocean (highly recommended) Belmont Park, I only wish we could have stayed longer and used a 5 day card!! We will absolutely purchase these cards everywhere we can! The Wave House refused to allow us entry and were very rude that we tried to use the card. Obviously they need to reevaluate being part of this program, otherwise every one else was awesome and the card was no problem to use.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

We purchased a 7-day pass and visited as many attractions as my 14-year old niece (visiting from Taiwan) was able to handle. The bike rentals and hop on/off trolley are a great way to get around town. We even took the bikes to Angel Island since we had them all day! The 2.5 hr drive to Monterey from SF was worthwhile just for the whale watching. We saw a number of blue and humpback whales.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

This card is easy to use, and is well worth it, in the discounts alone. If we had paid individually for the tours we did, we would have paid nearly twice as much. There were no issues using the card, and the vendors gladly took it as payment.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

I got a two-day pass for my family (two adults, three kids). Very easy to use - just showed the card and received admittance to the attractions. No hassles. The attractions covered are great - had so much to choose from. Favorites included the Exploratorium, Calif. Academy of Sciences and the Gray Line hop on/off trolley tour. Highly recommended, no complaints!

Smartest Purchase you will make!
By Richel12 from Whittier, CA on 11/22/2010
Pros:
Easy to use, Saves you Money
Cons:
Transportation, Only good til 530
Best Uses:
Tours, Cruises Bike Rental
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

After one day of use, the card had more than paid for itself. It's great that most things you can do more than once as long as it is on separate days. Every place we went to knew about the cards and gladly accepted them. It was very hard to find something we wanted to do that wasn't included on the card. Transportation would have been a great plus, but it is not included. I encourage you to buy a bart or muni pass, only because it is so much easier to get around town that way. Also, make sure you plan what you want to do for the day, so you make it to what you want before the cards stop working.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

Check the site before you buy. Some locations have very limited days, some weekends during fall. You don't wish to buy a 3 day pass if sites are not open the days you are in town. We broke even, ( with a broken hand could not bicyccle the bridge. )

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

We decided on a staycation this year and played tourist at home. I found out about the card doing a search for things to do in the bay area. By purchasing the 5 day card we were able to do all those things that are nearby but that we don't do because we live here. Fortunately they do give you a great book with maps showing attractions located within walking distance of each other. We know the bay area so it might have been easier for us to plan because we know the area and could make the most use of the card therefore getting the most for our money. We spent 2 days touring museums and local attrations in SF, 1 day in Monterey at Chris' Whale Watching (which I always wanted to do), it was awesome, and 2 days at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. We just handed the attractions our cards they ran them through a machine and viola! done. No cash to have to carry around. Super convenient. We will do the same thing next year. Maybe try another major city, but maybe not, we had so much fun. Just one note. Plan for paying for parking and transportation which can be expensive in SF.

Comments about Smart Destinations Go San Francsico Card:

I purchased the 7 day card for my husband, three boys, and I. We used it in Monterey, Napa, and San Francisco. We did not have to carry as much cash because we had the cards. The merchants were knowledgeable of the card and we had no trouble using them. We even used it at several restaurants and took advantage of 20% off our bill. I would recommend it to a friend especially if they were planning to travel to the different cities like we did. Thanks, We really enjoyed the card.
