The Golden Gate Bridge: One of the most recognizable bridges in the world, this orange suspension bridge is an icon that represents San Francisco. Deemed to be one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers, this gateway to the Pacific Ocean is a gleaming beacon that invites you to the City by the Bay. It has been featured in countless postcards, pictures, films, and television shows, and is a must-see for your San Francisco experience.
Palace of Fine Arts: Originally constructed to exhibit works of art presented at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, it is one of only a few remaining artifacts of the Exposition. Designed by Bernard Maybeck, the Palace of Fine Arts took inspiration from Roman and Greek architecture. Built around a small artificial lagoon, this structure is breathtakingly beautiful. Featured in films and tv shows such as Vertigo, Bicentennial Man, Monk, Charmed, and more – the Palace of Fine Arts is an illustrious marvel.
Alcatraz: Ferry service will be provided to take you out to the site of this former maximum-security penitentiary. Now one of San Francisco’s most popular tourist attractions, the ferry departs from Fisherman’s Wharf and transports you to the ominous island. National Park Service Rangers will enlighten you to the history of the island, present a short slide show about its past, and provide you with an audio walking tour device. Roam the cellblocks as you learn the incredible stories of infamous inmates, such as the “Birdman” Robert Stroud and Al “Scarface” Capone. This chilling penitentiary tour is informative and fascinating.
North Beach: Don’t let the name fool you – there is no beach here. After a landfill around the late 19th century, North Beach lost its coastal location, but did not lose its misleading name! This area has historically been home to a large community of Italian Americas, thus is known as Little Italy. North Beach was once home to Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Jack Kerouac, and many other talents – and is still home to some very authentic Italian cuisine!
Your tour will also bring you to San Francisco favorites – Treasure Island, Fishermen’s Wharf, Cow Hollow, Palace of Fine Arts, and more! Your professional guide will make the sightseeing experience informative, memorable, and fun for the whole family. Get to know San Francisco’s many attractions and neighborhoods in the Alcatraz Plus Twilight Tour excursion.
