Description

Explore earth, ocean and space – all in one place by visiting the "Greenest Museum" in the World. The California Academy of Sciences is the only place in the world to combine an aquarium, natural history museum, Worlds' largest all-digital planetarium and four story rainforest canopy under a 2.5 acre living roof.

Slip on a pair of 3D glasses and check out Bugs! shot on location in the tropical forests of Borneo. Meet Claude the Albino Alligator and hang out with Pierre, Howard, Ocio and the rest of the South African Penguin colony.

Designed by award winning architect Renzo Piano, the Academy will inspire lifelong curiosity for the natural world as you experience the depths of a Philippine coral reef, climb into the canopy of a Costa Rican rainforest and fly to the outer reaches of the Universe.

Note:

The Go San Francisco Card is limited to ONE California Academy of Sciences Ticket per card.
Third Wednesday of every month is free of charge; no ticket is required. General Admission ticket includes access to all of the exhibits and shows within the Academy. Please note the Planetarium and Bugs 3D shows are capacity controlled and subject to availability.

Public Transportation:

Muni to Golden Gate Park:
The #44-O'Shaughnessy bus stops across from the Academy

The #5-Fulton and #21-Hayes stop at 8th and Fulton Streets, just outside the park. From 8th Avenue, go into the park and turn right on John F. Kennedy Drive. Then turn left onto Music Concourse Drive.

The N-Judah Muni Metro streetcar, which is wheelchair-accessible, stops at 9th Avenue and Irving Street. To reach the Academy, travel north on 9th Avenue into Golden Gate Park. 9th Avenue becomes Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Keep going on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. until you reach Music Concourse Drive, then turn right and continue to the Academy entrance.
