Comments aboutSmart Destinations Escape from the Rock - Blue & Gold Fleet:
We switched a cruise for the Alcatraz Tour. You have to buy your tickets through the offical Alcatraz website. Book your time to visit Alcatraz. Then, when you arrive in San Francisco, you can pick up your Go Card, turn in your printed Alcatraz tickets. When you return for departure to Alcatraz at Pier 41 they will give you your "real Alcatraz" tickets. It can be same day, next day. It is just used as one of the cruises on the Go San Francisco Card. Best time to go is 10:00. We were able to catch a Ranger tour into a building that isn't normally open to the public. Also, a former prisoner name William Bates was there signing his book. Weather was perfect. Crowds started spilling in during the afternoon.
