Photo: Tranquil Pink The Children's Museum of Tacoma is geared to children age 8 and under and is made up of hands-on exhibits. Playful opportunities abound in ‘Design, Build, Play!’, an exhibit inspired by the art and architecture of playground equipment company Kompan. Through their play and block building, children will gain a variety of pre-math and science skills as well as build knowledge about themselves and the world around them.
‘New Digs’ features a neighborhood brimming with container gardens and interactive window boxes. Connections are made as children role-play in the cafe, whipping up tasty treats or ordering a fresh lunch.
‘Becka's Studio’ gives children time to explore artistic endeavors through painting, scribbling, collaging and creating magnetic designs.
‘Zing! The Power of Play’ opens up a universe of endless imagination. Children can build an entire world with "tinker toy-like, giant foam blocks" from New York City's Imagination Playground. They'll watch their ball race up a tube, and come rushing down the paths of the ‘Woosh’ wall. In ‘Squish’ they can dig in a super sensory dig pit. ‘Shine’ brings the joy of experimentation with colors, lights and shadows in a room full of ever changing manipulative and light projectors. Then, in ‘Action’ children can play dress up on a stage capable of light, costume and setting changes.
From the backyard to the moon, the Children's Museum of Tacoma celebrates the power of play in the life-long journey of learning.
