Looking for uniquely Boston attractions this summer? Look no further than the famous annual Chowderfest! Part contest, part celebration, and all yummy, the Chowderfest is a tradition in Boston that lets locals and visitors alike get a taste of the best chowder in Beantown.
The 32nd Annual Chowderfest (known as “Chowdahfest” to locals) will be held in City Hall Plaza in conjunction with the famous Boston Harborfest. This nationally-renowned event will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2013, from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Tickets are required, although they are very reasonable: $13 for adults / $9 for kids. We do recommend that you purchase tickets in advance, as they will sell out quickly.
It’s a competition to see who makes the best New England clam chowder in the greater Boston area. The best part? You get to be part of the evaluating crew. Sample chowder from top restaurants all across Boston and vote for your favorite! This year’s participating restaurants include a lot of local favorites, like Anthem Kitchen + Bar (last year’s winner, located in the fun and visitor-friendly Faneuil Hall area), Chart House (a Hall of Fame Member with award-winning chowder), and seafood giant McCormick & Schmick’s. Past estimates have suggested that over 1,000 gallons of chowder will be served up to thousands of hungry judges – quite possibly the largest concentration of chowder in the world!
There will be tables set up on City Hall Plaza along with a beverage tent, so you can sit a while and savor each of your tasty chowder samples. While all of the entries have to be New England clam chowder, you’ll find a lot of variety in that genre. It’s a great way for visitors to get a real feel for Boston cuisine. You can even practice saying “chowdah”! A must-see Boston attraction for seafood-lovers, foodies, and anyone who enjoys a good free snack.
