Hawaii Surf Season Tips

Many Polynesian traditions stem from their relationship with the ocean, so be sure to bask in its splendors on your Hawaii vacation! Hawaii hosts ideal surfing conditions year-round, with ocean temperatures averaging at 74 degrees F (23 C), with summer months reaching close to 80 degrees. Each season offers swells that are made to suit different levels of surf experience.

Surf is at it’s lowest during the summer months, making it an idyllic time to get an introduction to the waves. Rent your surf board or boogie board with Hawaii Oceans Beach Gear – included in your Go Oahu Card – to see if you can tackle some of the most internationally revered surf sites!

Winter is a favorite amongst seasoned surfers, as the swells usually rise between 6 and 12 feet, with bigger swells pushing up to 25 feet! The legendary winter waves attract professional surfers who participate in a bevy of world-renowned surf competitions. The North and West side of the island are teeming with activity as they offer the most sensational surfs.

Despite the sensationalism of winter surf, spring surf is set to rival – especially on the North Shore. The pro surfers have evaded the islands, and the waters welcome beginner and intermediate surfers to sample the Hawaiian surf.  Screen Shot 2013-09-27 at 3.29.58 PM

Not a surfer? You can still interact with the Hawaiian waves in so many ways! Snorkel the North Shore, try some Stand Up Paddle Boarding, embark on an Oahu kayak experience with Hawaii Beach Time, or relax on the Makani Catamaran Sail.

Can’t choose? Not a problem – all of these activities and more are included at one low price with your Go Oahu Card! Experience it all – the surfing, swimming, snorkeling sunbathing, and so much more – for an unforgettable vacation experience!
