Brookfield Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals, from aardvarks to zebras and everything in between! The zoo features a full schedule of activities and attractions, exotic animals, engaging daily events, dolphin shows, playgrounds and water features, and so much more!
In the recently opened Great Bear Wilderness, you can stroll over seven acres of majestic landscape and go eye- to- eye with great North American animals such as grizzly bears, polar bears, bison, wolves, and eagles. It’s a National Park-like experience, in the heart of the city. Brookfield Zoo is packed with excitement, and here’s a look at just a few of the awesome exhibits you can experience on a visit:
- The Fragile Kingdom: This habitat gives you a conservationist’s look at the animals that are most in need of understanding, sensitivity, and care from humans. In the “Fragile Rainforest”, “Fragile Hunters” and “Fragile Desert” exhibits, you’ll see African lions, meerkats, clouded leopards, as well as giant millipedes!
- Pachyderm House: This is a large exhibit indeed, and it needs to be in order to house the one-ton-and-up beasts who reside here, including rhinos, hippos, and lowland tapirs!
- Seven Seas: You’ll see captivating aerial shows, spontaneously performed by sea creatures who like to go airborne, including Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins. You will learn about their intelligence and unique communication methods as well, which are considered to be inferior only to those of humans.
Habitat Africa: The Savannah: This is your “classic” African zoo habitat, but with so much more than just lions! Giraffes, African Wild Dogs, Klipspringers, and aardvarks run amok in this free-range habitat.
What other authentic habitats call Brookfield Zoo home? Hear the call of the wild in “Regenstein Wolf Woods”; see your feathered friends at the “Perching Bird House”; enjoy hands-on fun at the “Hamill Family Play Zoo”; take a trip to the shores of Chile and Peru at “the Living Coast”; and experience wetland wonder, as well as terrifying man-eaters at “The Swamp”!
