Consistently voted one of the top museums in the world by TripAdvisor, the Art Institute of Chicago is home to impressive collections of modern and contemporary art, architecture, design, photography, ancient artifacts, paintings, and more.
Some of the most famous pieces at the Art Institute include the Chagall “America Windows” stained glass windows, Matisse’s “Bathers by a River,” and Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Black Cross, New Mexico.”
As the nation’s second-largest museum, you can find examples of practically every genre of art; explore one of the best collections of American contemporary art in the Renzo Piano-designed Modern Wing, scope out over 5,000 years of Asian art and artifacts, wander the contemporary sculpture galleries, see 68 small-scale imitations of European interiors from the late 13th century, and more.
Be sure to check out the museum's much-anticipated gallery renovation in The Deering Family Galleries of Medieval and Renaissance Art, Arms, and Armor. The exhibit is home to the museum's beloved collection of early European Arts and nearly 700 artifacts from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, including monumental altarpieces, exquisite jewelry, and armored figures on horseback.
